Overall this is a very good catalogue. Unfortunately, there are a few minor facets that diminish it in my estimation. For one thing, the images don't necessarily match the descriptions of the stamps. For example. stamps that may only exist in a booklet format (at most, three edges having perforations/die cuts), may be depicted as having four such edges. A close examination of the images reveals that the "perforated" backgrounds depicted are identical, no matter the printed image. (See the Santa Christmas Ornaments, Scott numbers 3883-3886). The catalogue could also have benefited from closer attention to the pre-production proofs. I have found several typos or inconsistent entries in the descriptions. For example, the Cloudscapes entries (Scott number 3878a-o) feature entries reading "Alocumulus", Alotcumulus", and "Altocumulus". My criticism may seem niggling, but when one is dealing with a purportedly authoritative reference work, I think the bar should be appropriately high.I purchased this catalogue because it seemed to be the most up to date one available at the time. I'm thinking now I should have waited a little longer and purchased the Scott publication.
Harris has a long history of providing catalogs and this one is a step up from the ones I purchased in the 1980s. Glossy, spiral-bound, with a hard cover, it's very pretty. And that's where the fun ends. It uses unconventional grading levels, doesn't display all the stamps in a series, groups pictures on pages that are sometimes *pages* out of sync with the catalog numbers and so on. Worse still it only contains values for used and mint SINGLES. No blocks, no plate blocks, no first day covers. And hilariously it suggests that if you have a coil pair you should just "double" the value of the single value. That's ridiculous.So, this is a great value for the novice maybe, but those with ANY experience beyond that should stay away.
As a stamp collector this is an essential reference. Description & color photos make this a must have. High quality publication. Price guide gives values which are comparable to other companies if not perhaps slightly higher. But yearly to keep current.
Beautiful book and can be very useful. The only missing data are the dates! No dates. The years are marked but there is no date for the individual stamps! That makes my review just three out of five stars.
I like the H.E. Harris Catalog, because is easy to navigated the pages, I love the book because you can put it flat in any surface,like a printer.But that is nothing like the main features, and that is the best pricing system. The price of 4,6 10 blocks, and whole pages. you don't find that in any other catalog.That is the reason, I bought the new one every year on December before the year begin.I recommended to buy, and you will see what I talking about. This is a useful catalog for the collector. It's put out by a very known company for collectors. Covers the U.N., our possessions too. It is spiral bound, which is a big plus, making it easier to use.
Nice book easy to read and follow only negative thing is the spiral binder - makes it difficult to turn the pages.
really handy reference book and well thought out. hope to get the 2015 when it comes out. recommend this to both new and experienced collectors.
