I happen to be one of the people who contributed to the content of this (5th) edition. First of all, realize that Bob did a marvelous job on this daunting task but did not, no one person could, write it all himself. Many people have supplied photos, information and written to the various editions. Furthermore, research has continued since the first edition and much has often been learned since any given part was written. To give you an idea about how such erroneous material gets included, let me share some of the adventure of the part I worked on... We worked up a correction to the existing section. Then we were given the go ahead to completely rewrite the section. This was undertaken with some entirely new images. Concerning image quality. Many of the rifles pictured are in the hands of private collectors and the images were donated by them. If the quality is sometimes lacking, we must consider ourselves fortunate to have some of these at all.The final irony is that only some of the updated material was applied. The complete file was "misplaced" by the Chinese printer. Oh, they HAD it we were assured. They said they just couldn't FIND it. Nor did they in time for the printing. Another on-going problem is accurate captioning. Here again, the publisher has the say about how and where images are fitted into the text and the correct captions are sometimes split, shortened or even misplaced. I do not know who got to see the final layout before printing but it was nobody I know that worked on the sections I was involved with. There's another recurring problem in this. Often times nations sold their rifles to other nations and they then get lumped in and mistakenly categorized.
