I should congratulate Tom Carpenter (author) on this wonderfully written book. It brought me up to speed on the required subjects and helped me pass the test. Hope to see more books from Tom soon. It's a shame CompTIA is retiring CTP+ certification on Dec. 31 this year. Though, obviously it's CompTIA's role to attempt to anticipate hot topics in the industry and things don't always work out the way annalists plan (RFID+ anyone?).P.S. (for all you students out there): as in any study guide, never ignore the appendix/addendum documents and always consult the latest exam requirements from certification vendor's website!

The book is well-written and its great if you want to learn about convergence technologies and how they all work together. But if your goal is to take the CTP+ Certification, the test I took was not the same test that this book claims it is teaching you. Out of 65 questions, at least 15 contained topics, keywords, or concepts that were not mentioned in the book. I read this book 2x, took notes, studied for weeks. When I heard that the cert was being retired, I took the test about 2 weeks earlier than originally planned. Now I know for my next CompTIA exam, dont count on one book to teach me all the concepts required for an exam. I should buy 2-3 other books just to get other opinion on what people think might be tested.

This is a great study tool for anyone looking to enhance their networking knowledge. Some people do not like CompTIA or their certifications but I do. Their are a great starting point and vendor neutral that covers the core knowledge necessary to understand the technology!

I would have to completely agree with most of the other reviewers - this book does not prepare you for the actual exam. I have A+, Network+, Security+, and several Microsoft certifications. I took the CTP+ exam on 12/28 and failed with a 699/750. Many terms in exam questions were never once mentioned in this book!Certain sections are good, but overall many topics are not explained well enough or thoroughly enough. Numerous times the author uses terms or acronyms before (or without ever) defining them. There was one portion of about 2-3 pages which was completely the same word for word in two different chapters. Many times he references preparing for CTP+, but there are also several times he references Convergence+ and even once CCNA - showing these portions were simply copied from other sources and likely not updated (certainly not edited). Similarly, in some chapters he mentioned that 802.11n was in draft, yet in others he mentioned it having been approved and implemented - once again showing poor editing. There is a significant portion of the book dedicated to wireless networking concepts; yet only 1-2 questions on the entire exam of 65 had anything to do with this. Telephony and QoS (the main content of the exam) were only minimally addressed. Furthermore the Glossary is a joke, barely containing anything useful (missing even the most basic key terms such as delay, jitter, signaling, and webcast to name just a few). The test on the CD is also a joke (I completely aced it as well as the end of chapter questions) and not anything like the actual exam. Additionally, the video did not work at all.Sorry if I come across as whining, but I am very disappointed with this book and wish I had known ahead of time as now I will be unable to retake the exam.
