The iphone is a sophisticated device that can do a million things-this book is the help you need to get the most out of it.It starts at the beginning and goes from there. It talks about programming the phone first (includes new models like( 5c 6 and 6plus) and basic use is right in the beginning which is smart. There are lots of graphics to help explain things and also many things are described step by step. I do a lot of basic tech support on these devices and this is my favorite go to book for anything on the ipone. This book is great for mega details about it. The book gives solid and important facts and takes you all the way to advanced usage. It will show you how to really get the most out of all the tools and apps you can have. It goes so far as to show you how to organize/manage things on it like your eBooks, how to connect to wifi how to pair with blue tooth devices. It talkes about the cloud, how to use the camera, the quick menus, music, face time, how to connect to social media like facebook, managing your contacts and using your calendar. I have not mentioned all that is covered so you'll just have to get the book for the rest. You'll be so glad you did!

This is the type of iPhone book I have been looking for. Before I read this one, I read one that basically went over all the features and settings in an orderly fashion. It gave a brief summary of what each feature did. It was not much better than my tinkering with the features and trying to figure them out on my own. This book goes over the features, but it also gives educational background information. It also goes into more depth than a simple glossary-like listing of features. There were a couple of good nuggets of knowledge that I got from the book, like how to have full websites pop up in Safari, instead of the mobile versions. With my iPhone 6 plus, the greater real estate makes full website browsing feasible. However, I have to knock them for not going the distance and saying that the only way to undo that, is to reset Safari, which takes you back to square one with all of your saved favorite websites. Why couldn't they have said that? Rant complete. This book is indexed, which makes it a good reference book. This books is just what I needed.

As someone who is not very familiar with iPhones, or other Apple products, I didn't find the book very helpful. It could have also been the phone itself. It was the new iPhone 6s plus. I had the phone for two weeks. Android is much better in my opinion. Apple wants too much control over the phone and what you do with it. First, Apple insisted on screwing up my phone plan (Verizon) so I canceled the order with Apple. Ordered the phone through Verizon so I could keep my plan without modification. Then Apple wanted me to repurchase my entire music library in order to music on my phone, and EVERYTHING had to be done through iTunes. Obviously the book didn't address much of that. Unfortunately it didn't really address many of my issues or concerns at all. And then there is all the apps that you cannot get for Apple because Apple doesn't want you to have them. After all, you might get naughty if you had access to stuff that could possibly at some point or another raise an issue with copy right or any other mundane thing Apple wants to prevent you for having the capability to do do. So, Apple got their phone back within the return period. The book I'm stuck with. I ended up with a Samsung Galaxy Note phone. Quite happy with it.

If this were the only book you could get about using the iPhone, it would be okay. Diligent study would familiarize you with all the major functions’ and assets of the iPhone 5 and 6 series. However, I personally don’t like the style. First, there is too much of a rah-rah attitude about the iPhone. To me an, iPhone (and I do own an iPhone and iPod Touch) is just a tool. I am equally at home with Android devices. I don’t need “brand boosterism” in what is essentially a manual that should have been produced by Apple. Second, compared to other books, the coverage is a bit on the light side. Finally, each topic is presented primarily as text. There are illustrations, but not an abundance of them. Many of the topics are padded just to fill space, it seems. Some of the information is arguable if not outright wrong. The almost full page on “Airplane Mode” demonstrates the point. “Your pilot or friendly flight attendant will suggest that passengers simply turn off their phones.” Not on American airlines. It is not a “suggestion”, it is a directive required by law. Further, none of the airlines I’ve flown with in recent years have been anything but very specific about putting the device in Airplane Mode. Small point? Sort of, but typical of the author’s approach. On the whole, I felt that the author had a checklist – a not at all uncommon way to tech write articles and books – and just went down it point by point, creating a block of text for each point. The coverage is never actually inadequate, but it felt to me that something was lacking, maybe a stronger sense of cohesiveness than I got. As I said, you can learn all the major functions and assets of the iPhone 5 and 6 from this book. There will be nuances that aren’t explained fully, if at all, but the major subjects are covered.Jerry
