Kind of an autobiographical account of Mr. Matthews experiences with these rifles, you get some history of the field and quite a bt of advice on how to do certain things. There's stuff on casting bullets and loading cartridges, shooting advice, some on equipment. What you do not get is a manual on how to take some certain rifle and hit your target when you shoot, there are some tips though.I wouldn't recommend this book as a one and only do all but it is worth reading.
Informative without the academic dryness of a "how to" manual. Author is probably the most knowledgeable and qualified to discuss the nuances of the Black Powder Cartridge, the historical arms that fire these venerable rounds, and the range techniques needed to get them to go where they are pointed.
Good book but slow reading. Expected more from someone as famous as he auther. Good information but lacking in so many departments. Leaves you wanting more but more is not forthcoming.
Mathews does give you a great deal of information! You do sort of have to remember that there are other ways of doing things. Some may or may not work better for you!
