This b&w 160-page paperback measuring 6"x9" sports 25 illustrations. The paper is fair quality and the jacket reasonably, but not sufficiently, durable for a book that will most probably be handled quite a lot as the BP reloader learns his accuracy loading ropes. The text is large and reads easily. The book itself takes the reader a step beyond the mere loading of black powder cartridges as it focuses on accuracy and the target range. Mr. Matthews makes the point that black powder rifles and cartridges are way more accurate than expected and normally more accurate than the person who shoots them, so one should not have modest expectations. The book itself is divided into 16 chapters such as: What is MOA?, Practice with BP arms, Controlling recoil (and the effect of low velocites), Detail shrinks groups, Primer and flash hole sizes, Getting started, Cleaning BP rifles, Accuracy, Gadgets, Record keeping, Moulds, Bullet Types and stuff such as mirage and the like. The hunting orientated BP shooter may find the sections of this book which focus and target shooting a bit boring, but accuracy buffs will not. It is a budget introductory presentation of accuracy steps in the BP realm. The ways and means to achieve that with BP rifles are covered in more than reasonable detail. The rest you can only learn by going out there and doing it yourself. The great advantage of the collective of the Matthews books is that it has recorded BP knowledge we had almost lost since the advent of the jacketed bullet. The book makes it clear what to try to extract good accuracy from a BP rifle and cartridge. Again, not intended as the final word on the topic, it nevertheless makes very interesting reading and if BP accuracy interests you, this is one book you will learn from.

Full of details information, whys and wherefores for BP cartridge shooting. Particuarly liked the information on bullet diameter, but there was much more on bullet selection. A lot of detail on how you get to be a top silhouette shooter.

This book is an excellent reminder of all the "little" things to be done, which add up to more hits down range. Many of the hints are "common sence" but, reading them in the format presented if very helpful. It has already helped me increase my silhouette score. I recommend this to anyone interested in hitting more targets.

lots of good hints and helpful ideas for the black powder shooter who is planningon shooting in compitions or trying to improve their shooting

A lot of good info. Points out a lot of things to conceder about shooting BPRC. A good book to go with Loading the Black Powder Rifle Cartrige.

The book was entertaining as well as informative. Even if you possess above average knowledge of BPCR shooting and competition it will be useful.

Mr. Matthews goes into greater detail about this sport, adding tips and techniques that will benefit more than just the BPCR shooter.
