Model Steam Engines (Shire Library)

Model engineering was popularized by pioneering steam enthusiasts, and rapidly grew into an exciting worldwide hobby for amateur engineers. This book describes how model steam engines work, outlines the development of the machine tools used to build the models, and investigates the seven different categories of model engines, which include models built to support patent applications, and those built purely for pleasure. The author, himself a model steam locomotive driver, also delves into the possible pitfalls and practicalities of scale model engineering. Generously illustrated, this is guaranteed to interest any aspiring engineer, as well as collectors of steam engines.

This, and other Shire Publications are very small format. I cannot really call this a 'book', more like a small magazine. The pictures are small, grainy, and only in black and white. It isn't very informative either. I can find more variety of old steam engines just looking on eBay and the photos will be much larger and in color too. Can't really recommend this one.

Great photos, but text was trivial, inadequate. Not as I expected from the promo. When cost of postage is added to cost of book. it is not a good deal. I won't use this method again.

A great pictoral study of model steam engines. Provides a wonderful explanation of the subject of steam engine models and their display.

My last purchase was good .. excellent, like new condition. I knew what the book consist of, but others I don't know .. so, would be very helpful to now how many pages the books consist of .. I might buy more .. IF, I knew the size of the book.Thank You,John WaudbyArkansas Antique Gas Engine AssociationBentonville, Ark
