Giddy Up, Eunice: (Because Women Need Each Other)

It’s easy for women to focus on what seems to separate us: differences in age, parenting styles, career goals, or maybe even core beliefs about whether leggings can adequately serve as pants (the struggle is real, y’all). The reality, though, is that we have far more in common than we realize, and since Scripture shows us the blessing of friendships across generations, it’s high time we step out of our same-age, same-stage silos. Life is so much better that way. Sophie Hudson, in the delightfully quirky Southern style her readers have come to know and love, sends out a rallying cry for women everywhere to open our eyes and see the people God has put in our lives—whether they’re behind us, beside us, or in front of us. It is such a gift to love one another, walk with one another, and soak up the blessings that flow across all generations. Saddle up, sister. This is going to be fun.

I have such a great affection for this book and this author. First of all, let me say this book is a little different than Sophie Hudson’s previous titles. It is more of a biblical approach to relationships between women than the anecdotes around family and home town folk she usually shares. BUT this book has those too! This book is about women. It is about how we as women need relationships with other women to be at our “relational” best, so to speak. Sophie looks at the relationships of women in Scripture to mirror the way we can and should relate to each other. She looks at Elizabeth's relationship with her cousin Mary, the relationship of Naomi and her daughter-in-love Ruth, and the relationship of Lois and Eunice, grandmother and mother of Timothy. In this book Sophie also adds marvelous color by sharing personal stories and her fabulous southern whit. She shares about the young women she pours into and the wild, wonderful women who have mentored her over the years in the sweetest of ways. Giddy Up, Eunice would make an excellent book for a small group to share or a book club title.I pre-ordered several copies to give to my girlfriends. This book has meant so much to me personally because I am in a season of my life where there are young women in my circle of influence who will benefit greatly from these types of relationships. This book has been a reminder to me of how we women have a tendency to fill our lives with superficial and unhealthy relationships with other women, relationships where we walk in constant comparison and insecurity. We are selling ourselves short. We need deeper more supportive relationships with women of all ages. There are relational riches to be found across generational ages. Giddy up, ya'll...

I love to read Sophie's books, because she talks to you like your her friend sitting in your kitchen having coffee. She's also very funny in between very good lessons about life and, in the case of Giddy Up, Eunice, relationships between women, and how we all need each other, regardless of age. Sophie must be a few years younger than me, deduced by her cultural references, which lots of time make me laugh out loud. I couldn't bear to give away my copy, so I had to get one for my BFF, because I knew she would love it, too.

I loved this book. Its full of humor and so much truth. All of my girlfriends will be getting a copy of this one just because I love them.Girls, we need each other and Hudson spells it all out so we understand this. You all are going to be so inspired by this book. This is one of the best books for us girls and full of Biblical truth about some wonderful ladies in the Bible.I love the stories that Hudson share with us and I know you will love them also.I gave this book 5 stars and I HIGHLY recommend it.I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and Wynn Wynn Media for my honest review.

I'm going to start this review by getting straight to the point.Just go buy the book.Seriously.It's that good. Like laugh out loud, you're going to want to highlight/tweet/Facebook whole passages kind of good. And there are times since I've read the book when I've been sitting all by myself and laughed because I recalled a specific phrase or example from the book. All kinds of crazy looks from my children were shot in my direction, but they are getting used to forty-something year old mama, so not as many as five years ago. Yeah, so . . .Just go buy the book. Now, here's the why behind that statement.Giddy Up, Eunice is a book about women needing women. That simple message is so true, y'all. Do we need Jesus first and foremost? OF COURSE! But, we need each other to share, to support, to laugh, to cry, to hug, to be transparent, to be truthful, and to stand up along side one another and cheer. This is a book about mentoring using three examples of relationship from Scripture: Mary and Elizabeth, Ruth and Naomi, and Lois and Eunice. But it's so much more than that. It's a call to action for women of all ages to STAY IN IT.Sophie speaks truth from the sweetest place of humor when she approaches topics that are just plain difficult for women from different generations to discuss. I love the way her writing is a mixture of parenthesis-clad snarky sarcasm, Biblical wisdom, and downright in your face (in the kindest way possible) calling out of not-so-good behavior. Sophie roll calls the elephants in the room among multi-generational women and encourages them to sit down and play nice. Truly a must read and a game-changer, just go buy the book.

I really wanted to like this book, and I really tried to like it. I even read it from cover to cover in hopes that the meat of it was at the end. But overall I thought it lacked depth. Maybe this book was intended to be more of a group Bible study where some of the content could be a kickoff to more meaningful conversations??? The author, who I think I would really like and could be friends with, had so many personal side notes, and then side notes to her side notes. These comments were distracting and irrelevant to the point she was trying to make. Her main points could have been summed up in a couple pages. I like to support christian authors and those who try to help but I have to give an honest review . If someone was considering this book to purchase, they should know what to expect.
