I bought this book for my daughter's first birthday recently. We both love it! The first time I read it I couldn't help laughing at the story. The illustrations are so eye catching and colorful. I would recommend this book if you have a birthday party coming up for almost any age!
This is a fun book about birthdays that is great for children; it is equally entertaining for any adult who's given a party for toddlers or less-than-gracious guests! My 2-year-old loves it; it's aimed at a slightly older child than some of the Boynton standards, such as "Barnyard Dance." In addition, it offers parents the opportunity to discuss what happens at birthday parties, good vs. bad monsters/behavior, and - with older children - how to be a good guest.
My daughter loved these books when she was a baby, and so did I! Of all the Boynton books, this is the one I like the best. The story is adorable and the cadence is catchy! Every time I see a copy of this book, the story is fresh as the first time I read it. It's a great one for parents to read out loud!
I bought this book for my neice's first birthday, and she loves it! The pictures are wonderful, and the text is written in Boynton's usual melodic style--my neice certainly seemed to respond to the sound of others reading the words to her. The story describes five birthday monsters arriving and taking over on "your" birthday; although the monsters themselves aren't scary, young children who can comprehend the story might become upset by certain scenes (eg, the monsters eat all "your" cake!)--but of course, there is a happy ending. An engaging, fun story for young children.
This book checks off many of the things I look for when choosing books for my son. Board books are perfect for babies and toddlers. I bought this as a gift for his 1st birthday and 4 months later he still enjoys having this book read to him. I like the colorful and interesting illustrations. Lots to point out and discuss while reading. I love rhyming stories and so do kids. The story is silly, cute and interesting. A rollercoaster of emotions to experience. Fun ending. I definitely recommend this book. I can see myself buying it as a birthday gift for other kids as well.
This was a birthday gift for a little girl and she and her mom both seemed to like it very much. Durable and fun to read, so I think it'll be a great addition to a toddler's early reading collection. She had her mom read it a couple of times while we were there, which bodes well for its future. She was easily able to hold and manipulate the pages herself, which is what she wants to do.
I bought this book for my son's first birthday and it is so fun to read! He is just starting to sit still for a story and this one seemed to hold his attention-probably because of the quick pace and excitement that the monsters demand! I tend to read the monster parts really fast and louder than the rest of the book. And I like the illustrations because we can count balloons and different color hats etc as we read the story.
Sandra Boynton makes some of the best children's books. Birthday Monsters! is a really fun book about the lead characters birthday and what happened when the birthday monsters showed up. It's a really silly book, that my three year still loves two years later. It's also one of my favorite to read.
