I had bought the supplies to make hard lotion years ago, but never tried as it seemed too hard. I was wrong. I bought the book, followed the super easy instructions, and I've been thrilled. Hard Lotion is super easy to make. The instructions tell you how to customize your bars, as well as how to sell them yourself. That I'm not going to do, but I will be making for my friends and family as gifts for birthdays and holidays. Who knew that this would really be so easy and fun.Because you can choose the oils, butters, and scents you can really customize the bars to your needs easily.The book also has pictures so you know you aren't doing anything wrong step by step. Love it! I only wish the book has been sold years ago. I guess you have to wait for the writer to write. I am very glad I bought the book, and I'm buying one for my daughter who lives too far away to borrow the book.
Two things - first this book is much smaller than I thought when I bought it. I read it cover to cover in about 15 minutes. It also only had a couple recipes and I was looking for a book with many. Second - I am still giving it 5 stars because despite the small size there is a lot of information in it. It does tell you the basic recipe/amount of ingredients for making hard lotions which allows you to choose the oils and butters you want to add. Then it gives you two (might be three) other recipes to use. The author explains how she got started in selling lotion bars and gives ideas on how to get started yourself along with prices etc. I actually use this book a lot more than I thought I would!
The information in this book is easy to read and understand. There are pictures that are helpful too. I don't want to have to make my own soaps and lotions but I know I will be able to do so if necessary.
This book was a fun and easy read. I originally borrowed it from my local library and found it so useful that I purchased a copy on . I couldn't find it like I was hoping used so I had to purchase a new copy. The writer's style is very enjoyable. I am saving this book for when I start my own little hard lotion business. I think if you get this book in order to learn how to make hard lotion, you will be very pleased. It contains information on where to contact the author for a free sample of her lotion.

When I saw the size of this book I was sure I had been "taken". Then I paged through it. Then I read it. Then I used a recipe. Now I want to contact Ms. Rynn.This is a gem. There is no filler or fluff-- just the facts thank you very much. The fact that she is an analytical chemist results in simple and credible explanations. Bravo and thanks. I made a batch of hard lotion right after I got this book, and I just love it! It works so much better than liquids or creams, in my opinion. And no nasty chemicals. Great little book, well worth the money.
Its nice. Very basic which is what makes it nice. Wouldn't use the cupcake holders again as the edges are quite uncomfortable when using the lotion and also a little messy when those little ridges break off. And, they do have a tendency to break off. My opinion....wouldn't pay more than a buck or two for a book like this again.
