At times, money is tight and I have been working harder at conserving where I can. One of the ways that I do this is by doing as many home projects myself as I can and conserving in other ways. This DIY Guide is a great overview of so many ways that one can save both money and time at home, by making things instead of buying them, and just generally conserving where I hadn't thought to do it before. I have already put many of these to use, particularly the Christmas ideas, and they are wonderful.
I am giving this book 3 stars, because even though the ideas are great, they are not for everyone. Most of them require a sewing machine, and there are not pictures, diagrams, or step by step pictures on how to make each project. There is only a picture of the finished project. Also you have to read all the way through each pattern to find out what items you will need. There is no list of what you will need before the instructions. Makes it more difficult to read. I am giving this three stars because it has some creativity, good intentions and the writing is betterthan average for ebooks. The stars taken off are for not enough detailed information and nothingreally interested me in the book. I already reuse a lot of items and sometimes they are given away, but mostly I use them myself. I want my gifts to mean more than these designs could mean toanyone. Junk is still junk. If I have something I can reuse I am happy. If I know someone who usessomething I have no need for I pass it on to them. I often save glass bottles that tea came in. Onenow holds some dehydrated mushrooms and another has dehydrated seasoning I made. There area lot of ways to reuse or repurpose things that are not tacky!Disclosure: I received this product at a discount or free in exchange for an honest and unbiased reviewof the product based upon my own personal experience. Due to the fact that I have had Multiple Sclerosis for the past 15 1/2 years, I am disabled. I am not able to do many of the crafts that I once did for years; crochet, cross-stitch, needle felting, scrapbooking, card-making, and I used to read many books, one after the other. I wasn't going to review this book because I haven't really heard the term "Upcyling DIY Projects" very often. So, curiosity led me to start reading and there are lots of neat little tips and tricks to alter something, often turning it into something else entirely while still being useful. Then after I read the book, I was looking through some pictures of my own and I noticed that I did many "upcycling" projects without realizing there was a name for it. I was raised by my aunt who grew up in the United States during the Great Depression. She was the most frugal person I've ever known and nothing was ever thrown away. This turned out to be a good read and, hopefully, I will find more things that I can Upcycle and still keep control of my very cluttered apartment. **I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review."
What to do with all that old junk you have laying around and just can’t stand to get rid of in case you can find a use for it some day. Author appears to assume you have an unlimited supply of old T-shirts lying around, and gives lots of advice on how to haunt thrift stores for more junk to upcycle. N ths book you will find 15 gifts that scream “cheap”. “useless”, and “quick and easy with no thought” 14 decorating ideas that will whisper “Salvation Army Store Rejects” and one that actually had merit for home decorating. 15 “Fabulous Fashion” ideas that escaped from a 60’s Dropout (HIPPY) Commune. I find I fit very completely into one of the people identified in the authors last paragraph before her conclusion. I received a PDF version of this book at no charge in exchange for my honest review.
