Progresing from simple implements of bone, stone, and wood to metals to the elaborately feathered flies of the Victorian era, antique fishing lures are now sought as highly prized collectibles. This edition has hundreds of new photographs and much new information not included in the first edition. Chapters include the 'big ten' companies, miscellaneous companies, metal lures, handmade lures, and finally the seldom seen experimental lures. Concerned primarily with the most colectible antique fishing lures made before 1940, this deluxe hardbound book contains well over 1,300 lures beautifully reproduced in full color. Research and identification will be simple yet effective with these descriptions, sizes, dates, 2001 values, and quck comparisons of similar features of lures.. AUTHORBIO: Dudley Murphy decided to become a lifelong collector of fishing lures at the age of 13, when his grandfather presented him with a gift of old Heddon, Jamison, and Clark lures. As one of the three founders of the National Fishing Lure Collector's Club, Dudley is an active collector with a variety of interest, including fishing. AUTHORBIO: Rick Edmisten was introduced to fishing at age 12 by his father, and by the time he was 18 had developed a keen interest in collecting old lures and tackle. He has hosted a successful fishing tackle collectible show from 1990 to the present, and is recognized as an authority on old tackle. He often appraises estates and collections. REVIEW: This book focuses on the "big ten" companies, metal lures, handmade lures, and the seldom seen experimental lures, and emphasizes antique lures made before 1940. Each section begins with a short introduction about the company, followed by vivid, representative color photographs that the company made. Each photo lists the name of the lure, number, date manufactured, length, collector value, and any important notes or details about the lure.

This was the first book I purchased on Fishing tackle collecting when I first started, and found the color photos and descriptions a tremendous help. The only draw-back I found was that this book only covers the "most collectible" lures. I still refer to it from time to time in identifying various lures. It goes hand-in-hand with my Antique Fishing Lures and Tackle by Carl Luckey. An excellent addition to anyone's collection.

We are generally disappointed in sequels but this 2nd edition IS AN EXCEPTION. The hobby's rarest and unusual Lures are pictured in vivid color with a short history. Set this one on your coffee table and your guests are instantly "hooked". If you are a collector or simply enjoy angling history, this one is definitly a "MUST HAVE"...

UNTIL I BOUGHT THIS BOOK SOME FAMILY AND FRIENDS DIDN'T REALLY UNDERSTAND MY INTREST IN COLLECTING LURES, NOW I HAVE THIS BOOK ON MY COFFEE TABLE AND WHEN THEY PICK IT UP AND START LOOKING AT ALL THE INTERESTING OLD LURES THEY CAN'T PUT IT DOWN AND START ASKING ALL KINDS OF QUESTIONS AND GO AWAY WITH A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THIS FASCINATING HOBBY.

This book is not the most detailed on the subject of antique lure collecting. What it is, is a great collection of color images with information on the lures and companies. The pictures are better than any other publication that I am aware of.

I just purchased a Large collection of antique and vintage fishing lures. I have fished all of my life, mostly with my Father back starting in the 1930's on our farm in Owasso OK. I had to have this book.

Great book with awesome details as well as history on the bait co. I will be buying the newer edition. This book is best for serious collectors that have pre-WWII lures. The author did an excellent job!!

If your a lure maker and or carver of lures or just collecting. This book is full ideas and prices colors and what the old timers did in the day to catch fish very grand book for any view you want to use from.

Any avid lure collector will absolutely love this book. I have purchased several fishing lure collecting "guides" in the past, but I have never seen such an amazing photo collection of the "early generation" of fishing lures. It's actually quite astonishing to see the sheer amount of extremely rare lures contained in this book, some which date back to the late 1800's. I also like how the book doesn't focus only on Heddon, CCBCO, South Bend, Pflueger, and Shakespeare, as many others do. While it's difficult to ignore these major companies, in this text, you'll also find Jamison, Keeling, Hastings, and J.K. Rush lures as well. Most books do not give these other companies much space. This edition of the book concentrates on the antiques-many lures are over 100 years old. So, if you're looking for later "vintage" lures, Volume Two is the more modern collection of photos. Even if you're not into the early days, it's still fascinating to see some of these crazy lures, and the rarity and sheer amount of them contained in this book is unheard of.
