This is a nice book. I like all the variations. Those who say there is no dough recipe, must have been distracted and missed it right after the Table of Contents. Plus some of the recipes give directions for a specific dough for that particular kind of empanada. I give it 4 stars because it could have been a little more clear which ones use the recipe and which ones had their own specific dough, but dough was definitely covered in the book.
So very suspicious of all these five star reviews!!!! I wouldn't consider this a cook book...maybe a recipe idea book (if one is feeling generous). Many of the recipes are incomplete. For example, there's a cheese, spinach and BACON recipe, but nowhere in the ingredients or the directions is bacon ever mentioned. Another recipe says to add the onions, but there are no onions in the ingredient list (there is onion powder?). Temperature guidance is missing in many of the recipes. The dough for the ham and cheese empanadas is impossible. The dough would not hold together as written, and then was so stiff that I threw it all out after making just 5 empanada discs (and breaking a rolling pin in the process). Sprinkle liberal amounts of poor grammar and incomplete sentences throughout..
I couldn't decide which one I wanted to try first--the classics fried yucca empanadas and Argentine beef with olives and tomatoes, or the more creative, like Thanksgiving empanadas with all the trimmings or Columbian-inspired potato and peanut. And for dessert, how about chocolate and dulce de leche or s'mores? Fried, baked, vegetarian or sweet, there's an empanada here to delight everyone's taste buds!
A cookbook containing savory and sweet baked and fried empanadas. I had tried 3 recipes in the savory section like the Beef, Ricotta and Spinach, and the fruit empanadas. They were delicious and easy to make.
I had never heard of Empanadas before but seeing this book I had to try they because they looked so good on the cover and let me tell you they taste better then they look.yum yum.
Let me start out by saying I can't eat spicy food. I bought this cookbook because everything looks so good, why can't I make these things and just leave out the spicy bits. I'm having a ball making empanadas that I can actually eat!
A nice variety of recipes. This book has different sections for different types. It also has a little tidbit on each one. The directions are pretty easy to follow. It also has recipes for the dough. You also get a sample kindle version once you purchase. It only has a few of the recipes in the kindle promo so don't think that's the whole book.One thing I noticed is that the editor failed. There were multiple errors in my copy. A hard copy book should've been proof read better. One of the recipe has an item in the name, yet doesn't have it in the recipe.
Going w a 3 star review; for about $5 one shouldn't expect alot. I think I'm being generous, book is bigger than a pamphlet but not a regular sized book. Guess I wanted more recipes but that's okay. I gotta read the descriptions, to see what I'm purchasing! Lol well, I bought a empanada aka dumpling maker at Daiso for $1.50. So I decided just get a book & call it a day. It's just something to do for alittle summer fun. Just keep in mind there's not alot of recipes in book, but I don't think it's a bad purchase.
