This is STUNNING book, visually, culturally, personally but technically is VERY difficult. I love it but I can do a lot in the kitchen and am semi-professionally trained. If you are not comfortable in the kitchen you will love reading it and may try a few recipes but don't be upset when you realize the author assumes a lot of knowledge about cooking in the reader. Having said that, it's a fantastic book.
It's wonderful to see this treasured text reappear in a handsome 50th anniversary edition that reproduces even the gold leatherette cover of the original. The recipes are classic and all are easily prepared. Combined with delightful photographs and reproductions of restaurant menus from a golden age, this is both an excellent cookbook and a wonderful visit to a bygone era. It will bring pleasure both in the kitchen and in the study, armed with a cognac and large cigar. This new edition has an amusing introduction by Wolfgang Puck and a charming commentary from the Price's daughter. Not to be missed.
So far I've only tried one recipe from here - the vichyssoise - and it was very easy and very delicious. I'm a huge fan of Vincent Price and after hearing a lot about the original print of this book I wanted a copy of my own. I'm looking forward to making a lot more recipes, and I've enjoyed getting a glimpse into the Price's home and travels. I also enjoyed the extra charts and tables included, such as the conversions/substitutions and calorie charts.
Numerous households in my family had this wonderful cookbook and i was so nostalgic for it, thrilled it was republished. It's likely not a cookbook you'll use in practice, but you will thrill in seeing the restaurants and recipes of many years past. Not to mention you'll love looking at the menus and prices! I can't imagine any diner or chef not digging this book.
I LOVE this Vincent Price cookbook. It is indeed a great treasure. So far, the recipes I have tried in the Italian section have been delicious. Just wish there were photos to accompany the recipes. The forwards to this book were written with great love which touched me deeply. Vincent Price's approach to food is my approach, too, except he expresses it so eloquently. Yes, this cookbook is not for the beginner but a person who loves to cook would have no problem with the recipes.
Just received this fantastic and keepsake cookbook. Lots of great photos, recipes and good reading to enjoy. I am hosting a V. Price party on his Birthday and can't wait to serve some of the recipes from around the World. Great cookbook. A must have if you are a Vincent Price fan and love to cook.
It's a beautiful update of the original book, which is filled with amazing recipes and wonderful stories. I bought it for a friend who loves Vincent Price and had just moved into a new home. There is nothing in it that makes a focused reference to Price's typical film genre - it's really a work of love between Price and his wife Mary and their cuisine travels all over the world. It is a functional cookbook, as well as a charming exploration into the celebration of good food.
This cook book is absolutely beautifully written and illustrated. I'm so glad I bought it!
