Art historians will tell you that these accomplished women illustrators, many of whom illustrated countless books and magazine covers, are entitled to be credited by name rather than as "Humphrey Bogart's mother, Frank Lloyd Wright's sister," and the students of other [male] illustrators. Ugh! This description is so offensive!
This is a wonderful set with very well-chosen images, though I find it very odd that the collection does not include the image on the cover of the set. The art includes a variety of art styles, and some of the illustrations make me desperately want to find the books they came from. None of the choices stood out as being questionable for any reason.If you're looking for art from extremely well-known books this probably isn't the set for you, but if you're just looking for lovely illustrations, mostly of children, it's a great set.I only give it 4 stars because the cards are rather thin and difficult to remove cleanly from the book. For that, I advise removing the cover and then removing each card in order (rather than trying to tear them out individually as you want to use them).
The postcards were nice but too many of them are hard to see because they are too dark. I know the original was probably dark too but this was more like copies of copies. There were some nice ones though. Just not enough for me to justify buying this.Also, as an active postcrossing member, I have purchased a number of postcard books. This one was the worst one to get the postcards out. I even took the book apart to make it easier and some of them still did not tear out evenly.I would not buy this one again. Too few nice postcards in the end after tossing some for either the quality of the image or the ragged edges.
I got these cards to mail to my grandchildren. I try and mail cards every other week. I thought the children in them would be interesting for my Grandkids. The pictures are cute and the kids like them.
The illustrations and postcards are great. Decent size and good quality. Pulling them from the book was horrible. Perforated edges are there, but, they don't do any good when placed at the immediate seam of the book. I ripped a few getting them out and hurt my bad thumb from pulling so hard. Seriously, it was crazy. Give a bit of room for the perforated seam to be down from the seam of the book itself.
