Yes, sex, STDs, lying, dating profile no-nos. All the dirt. And you will get a male perspective on a lot of this dirt because Wendy describes her experience as a dating coach and "man expert" throughout her own dating life. I don't want to give it all away, but she knows a lot of secret thoughts that men have.You are here browsing dating books for a reason! How about a book that doesn't have any rules! (Well, except don't lie in your online profiles . . . in fact, how about don't lie about anything?) Take the author's experiences and learn. Get a little girlfriend bravery behind you.
Excellent how-to (or how not to) book. Filled with humor, anecdotes, and stories, I must say it's one of the best online dating books I've found. Ms. Newman is extremely candid about her experiences, and I loved that she included the "where are they now" info, and/or what happened after those first dates. Highly recommend - esp to those of us re-entering the dating world, and unused to online dating. She also gives great advice about constructing one's on-line profile.
Wendy Newman's adventures in dating is a hilarious, yet insightful, journey to not only her husband, but to discovering more about herself. There are a lot of helpful hints followed by actual dating experiences that she has gone through. Some of these experiences were wonderful and resulted in relationships that went on for a few months. Others were comical failures that provide evidence for the advice and an opportunity to laugh along with her. 121 First Dates was an easy, light-hearted, yet thoughtful read, in my opinion.The only thing that I could say unfavorably about this book is that most of the suggestions seem to be directed towards an outgoing audience, rather than including the introverts.For those whom may be sensitive towards certain themes: there is foul language as well as sexual references.Please note: a copy of this book has been generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I am one of several people who followed Wendy's blog and said "You have to write a book about this!" She combines her real life experience with online dating (and friends' setups or other meets) along with the knowledge she's learned and shared through her association with Pax about the differences between men and women's communication and styles. Wendy is hilarious but also smart and insightful, with a very readable and entertaining writing style. Anyone that is entering the dating pool, or frustrated with it will pick up some great tips along with several LOL moments along the way.
Wendy's done all the hard work for us and passed on some outstanding information. Her humor (really? 121 first dates, a sense of humor has got to be top of the list!!) infuses the book with lightheartedness while giving us real, immediately useable tips. I now have a sense of hope that even if THE ONE isn't in my cards, having fun is! What I enjoyed throughout the book was the encouragement for women to date like we go shopping...try it on, prance around in front of the mirror, how will it mix with the rest of my closet (tribe)?, is this fun? Yes, she got down and serious, but I have to say, Wendy is unstoppable and maybe I can borrow from her! Looking online for a date, ladies? This is the book for you!
The book is aimed at women. I haven't finished it. Yes, it can be amusing, but it would have been helpful for me to know it was a guide for women only. Probably not much in here for a man to apply other than a few general things.
This book is as cute as its author is -- a refreshing contrast to the typical book in this category. The personal anecdotes woven into the text makes the advice more credible and creates a reading experience that's more like a humorous novel. I absolutely loved reading it!
Hopeful and insightful guidance on the dating process as well as funny. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 121 first dates in one afternoon after hearing Wendy talk at a book reading on Friday night. I appreciated her experience, humor and honesty in sharing her experience which I learned a lot from. She also weaves in learnings from PAX aka Partnership, Adoration and Ecstasy which has changed my life significantly. I would highly recommend this book to any of my single friends in whatever relationship they are seeking to find. She has inspired me to try online dating which in the past I've been totally against for myself. I am excited to pursue dating for fun and adventure to sort until I find my desired partner who is perfect for me.
