The Religious Potential Of The Child, 6 To 12 Years Old (Catechesis Of The Good Shepherd Publications)

Here is the continuation of The Religious Potential of the Child (from 3 to 6 years old). The author, Sofia Cavalletti, the founder of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, describes an approach to the religious education of children according to the methods of Maria Montessori. In this book Cavalletti draws on her long experience with children from diverse cultures and environments to describe the vital religious needs of the older child (6 to 12 years old). The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for children age 6 to 12 builds on the foundation in scripture and liturgy offered to the 3- to 6-year-old child. The theme of the covenant between God and humankind, first revealed to the people of Israel, is expanded to include all of history, from Creation to the Parousia, the second coming of Christ. For the older child, awareness of participation in this covenant relationship leads spontaneously to a sense of moral responsibility and of engagement with the cosmos in all its manifestations. This book will be a great help to educators and catechists seeking to understand the characteristics of the older child, particularly the childs relationship with the mystery of God. Even those not familiar with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will find in these pages wisdom and insight into the religious life and needs of older children. This book gives you insight into the depth and breadth of knowledge young children have and demonstrate. This book helps you to understand how children's thinking and comprehension evolve. Don't ever be afraid to say that is a great question let me ask someone else the answer! Children are capable of higher level thinking but usually just want a basic answer. This book helps you understand where they are coming from and what essential information they need. This book helped me immensely to teach a highly diverse group of young Christians.

This book is a prescription for the second level (ages 6-9) Catechist of the Good Shepherd program. It is Montessori based and adaptable beyond the Catholic base it prescribes. Please consider it, whatever your orientation, as it introduces the Plan of God for all children, Catholic or not. It introduces the trifold timeline in which we all live (Chist is born, Christ has risen, Crist will come again). The book emphasizes the role each child has in the Plan of God and how he can participate. This book is adaptable for evangelicals, but made to order for liturgical Christians.

I loved the deep insights in the book and the wonderful examples children give in their responses.Teachers and Parents can benefit from this book and so give the children in their care a real feel for the purpose and hope in life, and the children in turn teach the adults through their innocence.I have learnt much in using the ideas from this book---thank you Sofia Cavaletti and Maria Montessori.

It gives great insight and guidence in meeting the spiritual needs of children in the homeor in a religious setting. It is based on Roman Catholic doctrine but works well with most Christian denominations.
