Money Of The World: Coins That Made History

Money of the World: Coins That Made History illustrates how many coins were shaped by the development of Western Civilization-and how they sometimes helped shape it in turn. The Millennia Collection, illustrated throughout the book, tells the history of Western Civilization through significant coins of the realm. Each coin had to meet certain criteria before it could be added to the collection.

Didn't care for this book mainly because of the authors slant as evidenced by the coins the picked to feature and the ones they opted to leave out. Book had excellent production quality and would be OK if you shared the authors viewpoint.

I think it is a nice book to have because it give you good pospective of those important coins that made history. It has greatphotos and discriptions for each coin and give you the appropriate value of the coin at the end of the book. It comes in hard-cover and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in ancient coins.

This book is a must have for art-history students. The photographs are spectacular, showing all the coins in full color actual size & greatly enlarged. The eight chapters covering coinage from it's beginning in the 7th BC to the 19th century are well written by six different authors who have expertise in particular fields. Only the largest circulating coins of a given period are illustrated, & the coins selected are fine strikes in the finest possible condition. Smaller coins like farthings & pennies are not represented. Many of the coins in this book didn't actually circulate because of their size & value & are related more to medals than coins of commerce. The appendix of the book dealing with "market values by grade" is of little value to serious collectors because the values are out-dated. Most of the coins illustrated in this book are very rare & beyond the reach of the casual collector, however, collectors interested in the beauty & aesthetics of coinage will enjoy this book. Why waste your money on this book, it's not worth it, instead invest in a better coin guidebook like KRAUSE's Standard Catalog of World Coins. Good luck.
