Paper Money Of The United States. A Complete Illustrated Guide With Valuations

Paper Money of the United States, 19th ed. The Standard Reference Work on Paper Money Now for the first time, with every illustration on every page in full color. This landmark work is the standard reference on American currency. It is internationally acknowledged as the most comprehensive and universally recognized guide on the subject, illustrating and valuating all types of United States paper money. From the first year of Federal paper money, 1861, to the present, the fronts and backs of all classes and types of currency, from 3 cents to 10,000 dollars are illustrated. These are accompanied by text listing, describing and pricing, in up to seven states of preservation, every variety of paper money ever issued. The result is a complete pictorial, descriptive and numismatic history of the currency of the United States. There are sections on Colonial and Continental currency (notes issued from 1680 to 1788), and a complete listing by type of the issues of the Confederate States of America (1861-1864). Both are illustrated and have market values in several conditions. Also included are chapters on error notes, encased postage stamps and postage envelopes. For those who think of America's currency as a constant study in green and black, the rainbow-like diversity shown by the more than 800 color illustrations is a revelation in itself. The book is in may ways a museum catalog of a complete collection of United States currency. Many of the notes are shown in the finest state of preservation possible and some are so extremely rare that they may only be seen either on these pages or in an exhibition. Specimens from two of the world's greatest paper money collections, that of the American Numismatic Association in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and of the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian Institution are highlights of the book. A distinguished panel of acknowledged experts on paper money assisted the authors, enabling them to establish accurate and up-to-the minute valuations for all issues. The publication of Paper Money of the United States introduced innovations never before attempted. Robert Friedberg (1912-1963) was the first to standardize this subject and gave this book a permanent place on reference shelves. For the past thirty years, it has been completely revised and edited by Arthur Friedberg, who is the Honorary President of the International Association of Professional Numismatists, and Ira Friedberg. New information has been added and valuations have been updated, making it possible to establish the value of any note. Paper Money of the United States has been an invaluable asset to currency collectors and numismatists for more than fifty years. It also possesses an appeal and value of its own, not just to lovers of Americana and of the fine art of engraving, but to students of American history, finance and economics. Banks in America and throughout the world will find this book especially useful in that it makes possible the immediate identification of all obsolete but still legal tender paper money, while simultaneously giving a market valuation. It is a book which belongs in every library, public and private.

The 19th edition is the best reference tool yet for identification and values of US Paper Money. I think the pictures are much better than previous editions. Many items such as mules are addressed in more detail. I think the way they are assigned a category number makes it easier to go right to a note for information. This is an all around good book for reference. As far as National Bank notes, the section is very good, but you really need Don Kelly's sixth edition book on National Bank notes for a complete guide. The book is expensive, but it is worth the money if you are into Paper Money. Selling one note with the additional information could easily pay for the book.

I would recommend to any collector at any level of collecting, this is truly a must have.................Unlike all other price guides this covers more condition values, it aslo carries every piece ofinformation needed by a pro - to someone who just started, mules to errors.BIG COLOR PAGES and a really good and sturdy hard cover book that will last for years...........

THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC. THE COLOR DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS ARE GORGEOUS AND VERY DETAILED. THE LISTS BY TITLE ARE EASY TO USE AND THE NUMBER SYSTEM IS GREAT TO FIND THE VALUE OF BILLS BY GRADE. THIS IS THE BEST BOOK A NOVICE COLLECTOR COULD EVER BUY TO LEARN ABOUT PAPER MONEY AND THE VALUE OF THE NOTES BASED ON THEIR CONDITION AND RARITY.

This book is recommended for its completeness and for beautiful large color photos; especailly the note you'll never see otherwise. (hey, you never know!) It includes Confederate and colonial notes to add to completeness in one reference. It even incldues the list of National bank charters and number of notes known for each one, as well as encased postage stamps. The problem is that prices are wolefully out of date and apparently assume relentless price increases. Buy this for the ultimate Feidberg number reference, and then you need a different source for prices.

This is by far the best Paper Money book on US Currency. The new detailed value listings and the all color photos are a big plus and great improvement on the previous editions. As a collector and dealer, I love this book!

I am a collector of Confederate and Southern Obsolete currency. I also have a many pieces of US currency for which I needed an up to date guide to research rarity and values. This book, "Paper Money of the United States" fills that need in many ways. I like the way that it's organized and the color photos make identification a snap. But I did notice a couple of errors in the Confederate section. The illustration of the T-10 (listed as CS-10 on page 250) is almost certainly a counterfeit bill as it is much cruder than a real T-10. There is also no picture of the T-48. A second picture of a T-47 (page 254)is shown instead. A better job of editing should have been done. I HOPE that more errors aren't found but this makes me wonder a bit about the accuracy of the rest of the listings. Because of the errors a 4 instead of a 5.

Excellent pictures of front and back of each note and variation with prices according to grade. Would highly recommend this valuable resource as I refer back to this guide regularly.

Must have for either a beginner or experienced collector. This book is loaded with pictures and is a pure delight. Shipping was very prompt. This is a joy to own.
