With this hands-on guide, you’ll learn how the Cassandra database management system handles hundreds of terabytes of data while remaining highly available across multiple data centers. This expanded second edition—updated for Cassandra 3.0—provides the technical details and practical examples you need to put this database to work in a production environment.Authors Jeff Carpenter and Eben Hewitt demonstrate the advantages of Cassandra’s non-relational design, with special attention to data modeling. If you’re a developer, DBA, or application architect looking to solve a database scaling issue or future-proof your application, this guide helps you harness Cassandra’s speed and flexibility.Understand Cassandra’s distributed and decentralized structureUse the Cassandra Query Language (CQL) and cqlsh—the CQL shellCreate a working data model and compare it with an equivalent relational modelDevelop sample applications using client drivers for languages including Java, Python, and Node.jsExplore cluster topology and learn how nodes exchange dataMaintain a high level of performance in your clusterDeploy Cassandra on site, in the Cloud, or with DockerIntegrate Cassandra with Spark, Hadoop, Elasticsearch, Solr, and Lucene

It's hard not to appreciate excellence in whatever form it takes. As an author and a data scientist, seeing excellent technical books probably impresses me more than the average bear just b/c , let's face it, Cassandra isn't something most people outside of the field care about (well, they do, they just don't know it). While it's not a knock on , any time you see a book with perfect ratings, some jerk will come along and leave a turd on the grass just to be 'that guy'. So far, he hasn't shown up. All the reviews for this book are stellar and I couldn't agree with them more.Hats off to Jeff and Eben for writing the original and updates versions.I could blather on and on as I'm apt to do about what's good and bad about the book , except there's not anything bad I noticed (I received it like 4 days ago and I've read it , went through the almost all of the code - which worked flawlessly so far - and have been raving about it to all of my peers). Instead of telling you every detail I'll say this - as of today, September 10, 2016 - this is THE BEST Book on Cassandra available. O'Reilly has a well deserved reputation for putting out high quality material and this book exemplifies how they built that reputation. It's said that Brevity is the mother of wit. Well in technical books, being able to be thorough and concise takes a lot of work. You can explain any concept in 30 pages but being able to do it in a paragraph or two can be daunting. It takes a lot of forethought and one can only do that if they know the material inside and out.
