Like all nations, Mexico over the years developed many distinctive styles of folk dress, and although these are seldom worn for everyday purposes any more, they are joyously recreated for the fiestas all Mexicans love. Here are four dolls (two male, two female) and 22 costumes from 13 localities plus the classic Aztec tradition, such as you might see if you were to happen on some of these traditional celebrations. The women's outfits are especially flamboyant, with swirling skirts, elaborate use of ruffles and embroidery, and tiers of colorful petticoats. The cover notes add description and historic background (did you know that Chihuahua and Nuevo Leon received numerous German settlers?).
Talented PD Artist Tom Tierney takes on Mexican Folk Dance Costumes and the result is Terrific! Beautifully depicted & colorful with plenty of background about each region's particular style of costume. Great for anyone appreciates Mexican Dance & Culture or would like to know more about it.
This is a colorful book of Mexican state dresses and men's wear. I liked all the outfits and the information that was provided aboutthem. I only wish there were more costumes in the book.
