Not only did I learn a tremendous amount of information about Valentine's Day, myths associated with it, flowers, spells, superstitions. I was totally enchanted with the cards and the selected verses. If you buy one Valentine's Day book, this is the one. Incredibly well done.
This book is quite fascinating and very well presented. I loved reading about the history of valentines day and the various traditions that have developed over the years. The poetry is beautiful and the cards and photographs are entrancing. A beautiful valentines day book!
I have quite a few of vintage Valentines cards. I love to collect them. I like to send old-fashioned looking cards to my relatives and friends.Greeting cards of that era bring many very happy memories. Great book! Recommended!

It's so commercialized now we need to get back to the root and the meaning.Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer quantity of information I found in this book. I was expecting a simple collection of photos of Victorian valentines, which would have been nice enough. In addition I found information about the history, legends and sayings about Valentine's Day and various flowers and other symbols. Many customs, superstitions, legends and poetry are also collected here.I think I was most intrigued to learn that Valentine's Day does not commemorate the birth of St. Valentine, but his martyrdom on February 14, 270, and that on that day he sent the first Valentine's Day message signed "from your Valentine".
When cleaning out my wife's house we found a small box with valentines she had saved from the early twenties. We both found them interesting. We have since divided among her grandchildren as keepsakes. I picked up this book to see if we could find any in it like what we had. Indeed we did. Book also provides and interesting insight into valentines of the past.
I got this book because I was curious about the history and origins of Valentines Day. I was not disappointed! The author has filled the book with many fascinating facts about the general concept and it's origins long before it became Valentines Day and goes on to cover how the day and the name of the day was decided upon.What I didn't count on was learning about the many things associated with Valentines such as the many different flowers, birds and traditions and the gravity they held in relation to choosing a mate! There are also lovely poems, quotes and stories throughout, that make this an interesting and charming read.
What a beautiful book. So many traditions, myths legend explained. The pictures , cards, the history is s conversational, it's like the writer is talking to you. What a beautiful and wonderful way to express love. Poetry is so adequately placed. Again, perfect, I wish it never end. Thanks a ton for sharing such a beautiful book.
