First - this is NOT a book for beginners or those just entering this field or hobby who don't have technical experience. The author makes that clear in the description, but many of the other reviews seem to indicate it's a "starter" book.It is quite technical and meant to educate the technically literate hobbyist who want to break out their soldering iron, order parts, understand antennas, radio frequencies, etc. and perhaps build a semi-custom multirotor or winged aircraft. With that in mind, readers should check out the sample (click the book cover here) and the table of contents to see if the subjects addressed fit their needs.

I'm a drone novice and was expecting this book to begin with the basics and progress to the more complicated issues. I was disappointed. The book is filled with acronyms and lists and the author seems more interested in demonstrating his acumen than providing a readable book. If you like abbreviations and lists of items and their prices, this might be the right book for you. If you want to learn the basics then there are much better choices. It is books like this that make me regret purchasing them digitally--since I can't return it or resell it. Just a waste of money.

Very complete. Information about all aspects of "drone" design. I liked the part about figuring out which motors and props to use. Tons of resources and includes specific items to use and online stores.

I am an experienced 'drone' builder, and I was surprised to see just how thorough this guide was. John talks about the options and why a particular selection should be made. I wish I had read this book before I built my first craft, and even though I have built over 10 so far I will still refer to his book.

The book is built for the enthusiast for sure - I want to be an enthusiast but the book is written slightly above my level. that' snot necessarily a bad thing because it will make me stretch but it is a ton of information that requires a true commitment to the craft. I do think that this will be valuable to me, and I can easily see this as valuable to others.

This book covered a lot of info I didn't know, but to me it didn't seem to get into as much detail as I was looking for. It will provide information so that you will at least be familiar with the hobby and start to know what questions you need to ask.

This book contains a really wide selection of information with in depth coverage of a surprisingly wide range of topics including FPV.If you are just starting out with fixed wing or multicopters you will find excellent advice on what to get and how to put it together. And even if you are already quite experienced you will find interesting and valuable new information and construction articles. This really is an unexpectedly valuable resource.

This was a great intro to the world of FPV and drones. The only really negative thing I noticed is that you're going to have to find quite a bit of supplemental information from other sources if you want to build any of planes/drones in the back of the book.
