Had to buy for my DNP Business Intelligence Class. The information is good if you like Business intelligence. While I understand the importance, it is a bit dry. The writer provides excellent examples and tries to make the reading fun. Overall, it is a good book.
Healthcare Business Intelligence, + Website: A Guide to Empowering Successful Data Reporting and Analytics by Laura Madsen is a book written for healthcare professionals that need to understand business intelligence and how to manage healthcare business intelligence projects. Author Laura Madsen has spent her entire professional career in healthcare business intelligence, so the book's title isn't surprising. What is surprising is that she has written a thorough yet easy-to-understand guide that can be used by professionals any industry, not just healthcare. If you're a business intelligence professional hoping to learn about healthcare, this book wasn't written specifically for you. Instead, my friend and fellow [...] co-author Gabe Orthous recommends Healthcare Informatics: Improving Efficiency and Productivity. But BI professionals can still get a tremendous amount of value out of this book that may not be immediately obvious. Laura Madsen is a business intelligence professional explaining BI to non-business intelligence professionals. In particular, BI project managers can learn a lot from her writing style about how to communicate with our colleagues on the "business side" of our projects. You'll also get a lot of value from the templates that you can download from the book's web site.Whether you're in healthcare or not, business professionals and technology professionals working in business intelligence will find this book to be a worthy edition to their bookshelf.
Nothing much in the book that's specific to healthcare. Mostly talks about generic IT BI practices and has only a few healthcare examples. It can very well be applied to any industry. If you ar looking for a good Guide on how to set up a BI practice, it is a good book, however if you are looking for something deeper specifc to healthcare, it may not be. I was disappointed.
I am a big fan of Laura B. Madsen her book Data-driven healthcare saved me on a critical project I was working on. Her books are full of great information. If you want to have a full understanding of how healthcare intelligence works. This is a great place to start the process
I work for a Healthcare System that is successfully transforming from a hospital system into a health system. Now that a comprehensive Electronic Health Record has been implemented there is thousand of data elements available to utilize to improve the quality of clinical care and of the patient experience across the various continuums of care. Our organization is embarking on developing a roadmap for Business Intelligence to better utilize the available internal and external data. Laura Madsen's book has been a great resource in that development as it has helped a diverse group of leaders get clear as to the key definitions and success factors for BI, along with detail guidance to implement BI successfully. I am thankful for such a complete and well thought out book.
Anyone who has tried to implement a BI product knows it's not easy to do. Laura lays out a great plan that should make your implementation much easier as long as you follow her lead. She shares her years of experience at a level that anyone can understand. Whether you are a business leader or an IT leader looking for a guide of how to successfully implement a BI program, this is THE book to get you started. She provides many useful tools that should take away some of the potential pains. The best part of this book is that her plan would work in any industry, but don't underestimate the difficulty in dealing with healthcare data. It is great to have a book available that focuses on the healthcare industry and BI.
The book covers the full spectrum of implementing a BI environment. The entire book is very applicable to any industry, not just healthcare! Well done, Laura Madsen...
Came in great condition, was a required book so it's hard to report on reading for pleasure! But it did the job, got the A in the class. The book came in great condition so no complaints there!
