I've recently become fascinated with dinnerware from the mid-twentieth centurty and have collected many individual pieces manufactured by Homer Laughlin. This book allowed me to identify the patterns and shapes of these pieces, as well as the dates they were manufactured.
This is a comprehensive and necessary resource for those interested in learning about this major American china manufacturer. It only adds to my appreciation of HL's vast array of products over the decades, and makes my own small collection all the more valuable to me.
I love this book. It is a great advantage for the collector and seller. There are so many patterns to help identify a piece you may have. The up to date price list was wonderful to receive. The price list is for 2010-2011. I would highly recommend this book for a Homer Laughlin collector or seller. Diane
This book met all my expectations and more! My husband worked at Homer Laughlin China before we met, and while we were dating, every time we went to a restaurant, he felt compelled to lift up the empty dish, and look at the bottom, which drove me crazy at the time! He claimed that he was a member of the Plate Turners Club, at which I would roll my eyes.Fast forward to a few years into our marriage, when I began to take an interest in a set of pitchers he had purchased while he was working there - and I also became aware that Fiesta ware china was also manufactured by Homer Laughlin. I was hooked!I received a few pieces of Fiesta as gifts when the new line came out in 1986, and I also purchased a few myself. I became intrigued by the differences between the Old and New lines, and how one could tell the difference . . . I also kept seeing other lines of HLC at my favorite thrift shops, and started purchasing it myself, where I saw something I liked at reasonable price. That all leads to why I bought the book! I had bought one or two other boOKs that were exclusively about Fiesta, and they were very helpful also. But my eclectic collection was growing large, and I needed to know how much it was worth.I can't think of a single bit of information that anyone would want to know about the company or its products that is not extensively and informative covered by this book!I even found the pitchers my husband had bought years ago, and told him something he didn't know about them - they were part of a "chamber
I have 2 online shops for antique & vintage glass. Sometimes identifying glass is almost impossible. This is a great book with pictures and definitions. There are still some Laughlin patterns that I can't identify, but for the most part this is very helpful.
I have collected a Homer Laughlin pattern in the past and have used this to assist me in finding dishware that I have added to my grandmother's collection as well as beginning my own identical collection since she has given hers to my sister.
