After reading his excellent Vintage Beer, I was very much looking forward to this new book by Patrick Dawson, and it did not disappoint. If you are looking for a fun and irreverent take on loving craft beer, with tons of great illustrations, this is the book for you.

After reading Patrick's first book Vintage Beer: A Taster's Guide to Brews That Improve over Time (a highly recommended book on aging the proper beers properly) I had to get his next one. The Beer Geek Handbook is a tongue-in-cheek kinda read where you are going to learn something, whether a beer noob or full fledged beer geek. I laughed at some of his commentaries, and reflected on my own beer geekery as I read through each short take on the many aspects of being (or becoming) a beer geek. And if you pay special attention, you'll probably notice Patrick in some of the drawings.

I'll be honest and admit that I bought this book because it's illustrated by Greg Kletsel. I've been following him for a while and own a couple of zines, so this seemed like a no brainer! The illustrations are superb and really really fun. As far as the content of the book, I can't say much. I scanned through a few pages and it engaged me, even though my knowledge on beer is limited. This book seems super interesting and I couldn't put it down. Great job Patrick and Greg. You rock!

This is a great book for beer lovers everywhere. A perfect gift for anyone who has seen the light and discovered that beer is the single true religion. As someone who spends as much time as possible drinking beer, visiting places beer is brewed and discussing beer, I can tell you this book captures the passion of real beer fans perfectly. Best of all are the illustrations that are humorous and brilliantly observed. A must buy.
