I had the pleasure of meeting John Darcy Noble in 1999, and we've quickly become kindred spirits in the world of dolls. You can imagine my pleasure when he announced the publication of Rare and Lovely Dolls of Two Centuries! Told only as John Darcy Noble can, the book takes you on a magical tour of history. Not only do you learn about the rare value of dolls in our history, but John tells of meeting these dolls in such a way that the reader is drawn into the life of each. For anyone interested in how dolls play a part in the history of mankind, for anyone who enjoys being drawn into different worlds, for anyone who would love to meet the author, I recommend Rare and Lovely Dolls of Two Centuries. It's a rare and lovely book.
My wife Frances asked me to purchase this book for her on , as she heard it was an excellent book for her doll reference collection. Fran is an antique doll collector and a restorer of vintage dolls and has several dozens of doll books on this subject in our home library. Fran claims this is one of the very best books on rare collectible dolls. I was told the author, John Darcy Noble, was a curator at a museum in New York City (don't know which museum) however it's a delightful book to read as it covers most of the rare antique dolls from the past two centuries with detailed history of the dolls that adds to & supplements the superb photos.
This is a most desirable book featuring some of the best articles of John Darcy Noble's favorite dolls that appeared in various magazines. I am very pleased to have it. I received excellent service from the seller.
The book is filled with photos of unique and beautiful dolls. John Noble has a wonderful style, and I am always searching for books and articles written by him. His words make the dolls come alive.
