For the sake of full disclosure, my husband and I have been touring vineyards and Chateaux/wineries with the author for nearly 10 years. This book is a perfect reflection of her command of the facts, her love of wine and the region of Bordeaux and her ability to share her knowledge and passion in a most appealing way. My enthusiasm for exploring the "lesser-known" wines of Bordeaux has been rekindled. I'm delighted that Wendy is planning another book!
Reluctantly, I returned these, on account of how VERY basic this was. Fine for rank beginners; disappointing for those who already knew something about wine. Sorry. Shipping was perfect, btw! Not the seller's fault at all...
I found this to be the perfect hand book for everyone interested in wine. Whether an expert or a beginner like me - this little book is packed with information, facts and stories. Lucky enough to have accompanied Wendy on an outstanding wine tour, the book is what I would have expected: professional yet approachable. It is written in a concise and succinct way, yet every page brimming with her expertise and extensive knowledge which can only be acquired after years of living the Bordeaux life. I know that I shall not only be regularly referring to it, but I plan to buy many copies for all my friends. Great book to gift.
Don’t be mislead by the size of this book, it’s packed with relevant and interesting information all delivered in a deftly organized and precise manner, and with a style that’s light and conversational. While the book will appeal to the novice, the writer has anticipated and answered many of the questions a more experienced wine lover is likely to ask. If one wants to know about climate, geography, soil composition, grape varieties, what impact fog has on the development of botrytis, better yet, how that fog just happens to come about just ask Wendy. Clearly only a highly experienced and passionate guide, educator and wine lover could have written this book. It’s a winner.
I simply love the book! I have read a few wine books about different regions etc over the years and this is by far the best. Lots of invaluable information presented in simple and practical format. This is THE definitive guide to Bordeaux and the writer clearly is passionate about her subject matter. I recommend this for ALL wine lovers and those just beginning the journey. A truly enjoyable read that is so informative!!!
