I don't think I'm going to get to all 1001 wines before I die. But this book will help me choose the ones I do get to. Filled with great photos, lots of history, and all the facts you want to know about wine, this is an excellent book for both novices and knowledgable wine drinkers.
It's a good book of very different wines. Some are inexpensive some ultra expensive. The really nice thing is that it highlighted wineries that have other less expensive wines that I could try. It's a fun coffee table book.
Over the years I've collected many books on wine (having been in the Wine Trade for a long time). Now retired I can re-read and buy new ones. This book is thick and heavy, but contains all you need to know about not only the 1001 wines in it,but also the vineyard, history, proprietor, winemakerand how the wine was made. Most importantly it tells you what it tastes like, and recommends other vintages of the same wine and also recommendsother wines similar in style and price. And there are lots of photos either of the vineyard, estate or product. It does refer mainly to high end and expensivewines but does contain details of many, many affordable wines.Written in a non-technical style,it is not only very readable, but a must have reference book.Enjoy the book and the wines in it!
HUGE book. Don't know what else I was expecting, seeing as it has 1001 wines in it. Very nice presentation, lots of information about the wines listed in the book. I bought it as sort of a bucket list. Very excited to step out of my comfort zone and try some of the wine they recommend in this book.
I like this book, especially considering I only gave a couple of dollars for it. It gives great background references and colorful histories. The major part of which wines to keep and store, and which to drink within a year is obsolete as the book was printed years ago, but there is a lot of info about wineries, wine growing regions, a what to look for in a wine. And the book was so cheap (including shipping) that I bought an extra copy to read at a vacation home.
This is a beautiful gift to give to someone who loves their wines. Very educational with beautiful pictures inside. It is a wonderful holiday gift, birthday gift etc! It is also very thick. Looks good on a coffee table. Worth buying.
I own the italian version of this guide, but I think my opinion applies to the original too. While one can debate that there would be other wines worthy of the guide (so maybe the total would skyrocket to 10001 or more), there's no doubt that you are going to enjoy what you find in this book. I knew some of the products described in the book and I decided to try some new ones, suggested by this guide. Very satisfied, one of the best gifts I ever received. It's also great to plan visits, as there's an index by country/region.IMHO it's a must-have for both experienced enthusiasts and newcomers.
This becomes an exciting book to just jump in and search as you will. Almost a reference book. Can look up and see producers you won't normally find. This is a must have.
