I was looking for a starter guide to framing and Lee Bartholomew does a great job of introducing framing techniques in 112 pages.The book is packed full of great examples of framing to illustrate his points and he tackles a wide variety of themes in 4 sections:1. Framing Basics - a guide to tools, materials, selecting frames and mats2. Basic Techniques - how to assemble different types of frame3. Projects - specific projects such as framing different objects, more mat cutting techniques4. Dynamic Presentations.- ideas for presenting artworkOverall a great reference guide for starting out in framing, as clearly stated in the title and, although the enthusiastic beginner should outgrow this book fairly rapidly, there are still some great references regarding mat presentation, artwork display, frame tinting , etc., which are valuable.
The author provided a great deal of valuable information. He covered a broad range of subtopics in detail. I was somewhat disappointed in the way he handled framing canvas art. I was hoping to get a bit more information. All in all, however, it was a good book that was well illustrated. I thought it was worth its purchase price.
I purchased this book about a year ago because I personally knew the author. Honestly I had little interest in framing, but after reading through the book and seeing the beautiful products you can make I became inspired. Over the course of a year I have built 4 diploma frames, about 10 photoframes, and some large collectable jersey frames. Making frames has become a great hobby!
