This book is the best. I had taken a class years ago and could remember the most part, just forgot the little parts. This book goes step by step. If I had never taken a class, I know I could have done any stain glass that is in the book. I looked thru a many of books to refresh my memory, but this is the best. I let my sister read it and she is ready to start cutting glass. If you are going to teach yourself or need a refresher course, this is the book.

I picked this book up when shopping for glass and supplies. It is a great overview of many different glass-working techniques. The language and pictures are just great. I've been working with glass for years, and really enjoyed reading through this. I appreciated the level of detail - enough to get started but not overly bogged down. I especially loved her technique for making glass boxes - very clever with great results. This would be a great gift for anyone considering trying out working with glass.

The author assumes a pretty high level of commitment to stained glass. I saw a review here where a woman said reading this rather overwhelmed her, and I can see why. Tons of equipment, a dedicated workshop laid out for maximum efficiency... maybe you were just wanting to try out a new hobby! Still, it is a great resource for information and projects, even if you just want to try out this hobby. If you are more committed, go for it.If you are a beginner, you must look at Basic Stained Glass Making... it takes a "sure you can!" approach, and has tons of pictures to illustrate the step-by-step creation of the projects. Have fun!

My husband and I took a beginner's class and have decided to add stained glass to our many hobbies. I got this book from the library to see if we would like it and after reading it, we WILL be adding this to our personal library. I do recommend that anyone not familiar with things like solder and hand tools at least try to talk to an experienced crafter or maybe try Youtube for some videos but overall, this book is definitely thorough enough to learn from.In addition to the copper-foil and lead came instructions, she also covers "warm glass" techniques. At this point we don't plan on doing any warm glass projects but she covers it well enough that I would have no problem with using it as a guide. Her guide to tools and tips for setting up your own work area are a great bonus and the patterns she shares are varied enough that there should be at least one project that will appeal to you. And if not, you can make them for the practice and give them away or donate them to a local charity for use as a fundraiser.

I.LOVE. THIS. BOOK.Vicki really breaks it down for you. I am a stained glass hobbyist just starting out and this has REALLY helped my improve my skills. I like having things written out for review, otherwise I tend to forget them. It has been an invaluable resource to honing this craft. She had me saving glass in no time, improving my cutting ability and recommending the best tools for the job.

This book is amazing! I did stained glass about 20 yrs ago and am wanting to begin again. Vicki's book is very precise and clear. The color photos are beautiful and she even includes some starter patterns. I don't think I've ever seen a better "how to" book. I can tell she spent a great deal of time thinking about how to explain things to a beginner. Generally most "how to" books do a lot of assuming that you know things that you clearly don't! I highly recommend this book and the price is ridiculously inexpensive! Enjoy!

starts with beginner stuff, like different types of glass and goes on from there..step by step with colored pictures that you can see clearly what is going on.. goes on into all the steps you need to set up a "shop" to work in and gives several plans to work on ..overall a very good "get started" book

I'm a beginner so I got this plus another stained glass book from the library to get a better understanding of the process. It's a great book in that it has glossy colour photos and is full of information, but I felt so bombarded with so much info that I was quickly losing my will to live, or at least to make stained glass. The information can be overwhelming to a beginner, I wanted a simpler and easier book to start me off and I found that in Basic Stained Glass Making: All the Skills and Tools You Need to Get Started.Having said that though, this is like the textbook of stained glass that probably holds every answer and would be a helpful reference for those who make a lot of stained glass. It will get you started, but you need to wade through a lot of information first in this one.
