I have searched for sea glass my entire life. Nothing gives me more joy than finding a book on sea glass that I can pour over for hours. Life is not easy for a lot of people right now. To find a book that allows you to escape to the beach, without actually being there...is a true gift. Josie's photography always blows my mind. She is the most creative and passionate photograper that I have ever come across. Her images always stop me in my tracks...so I can savor the view. I can feel that she loves the beach and the sea glass as much as I do....that comes through so clearly in her pictures. So, do yourself a favor and order this book from right now. Give this out to all the people that you love. You are going to have hours of reading pleasure, all your friends and family will thank you, and you can also dream about the next project from Josie, (sea tile ?)...hopefully very soon.
I've given this book as a gift and have, of course, my own copy. Having collected "heart" rocks for years and brought them home as treasures, it was delightful to see her presentation! Beautiful book!
Another truly gorgeous book from Josie for those of us in love with the beach and all its gifts. It makes me long for the summer and warm sand under my feet, and the possibility of finding treasures. I'm inspired all over again with her poetry of words and valentine of jewels!
The book itself warrants 5 stars but 's packaging left a lot to be desired. The dust-jacket was scuffed & torn from being insecurely packed with another item. I ended up going to B&N to replace this "gift" for one in far better condition.
If you aren't familiar with this author's work, she uses a process called Scannography and takes seemingly ordinary objects like stones and shells and transforms them into images, books, prints and collections that are uniquely beautiful.Sea Glass Hearts is a collection of sea glass and stone images with some lovely poems and poetic phrases to accompany many of the photos. In this particular book, the theme is all about heart-shapes. The special meanings of this symbol for so many people: the core of our being, the lifeforce and strength, the qualities we value and strive for...lovely and thought-provoking imagery to consider and savour, paging through this book.Would make a wonderful gift for yourself or someone you love.Highly recommended.Read my complete review of this book at: my real life reviews dot com
I bought this book after finding sea glass on the island of Bermuda last summer. I'm obsessed with the hobby now, and the pictures in this book take me back to those awesome hours of sifting through the sand to find these glass treasures. I'm buying another copy for my Mom for this Mother's Day, because it was a wonderful experience we were fortunate enough to share together. Thank you for such awe-inspiring photographs, Josie!Sea Glass Hearts
Great pictures, if you like that and have someone who's a beach glass collector, this is a small good gift. Otherwise, it's more flash than substance, and I would not buy it again. It was also sold as new, but it came with some small grease smudges on the front cover that would not wipe off (and I bought this as a gift).
I gave this book and another on sea glass to my daughter for Christmas. She was very excited about the books and the contents inspired her. The first week of January she was at the beach, collecting more sea glass.
