Very well written book. Many facts inside I did not know. Highly recommended...this is my go to book to see not only value of Lionel trains but this book unlike other books has beautiful color photos of the trains
I bought a copy of Doyles Prewar Lionel Trains two years ago because I saw Prewar Lionel trains for sale but did't know anything about them. The book contains photos, prices and the rarity of prewar Lionel engines, cars, accessories (buildings,lamp posts etc.) and catalogs. I have not come across a prewar Lionel item that was not in the book. The color photos are sharp, clear and on glossy paper. The most useful information is the listing of the rarity of the item. Not every prewar Lionel is rare and expensive. This book is well organized and easy to reference.
easily carried small reference book to have with you when you are traveling or to leave in your car and come across something at a train show or antique show or shop and see something that you are not sure about it does not cover a lot of things but it can make the difference between missing a good deal or wasting a good deal of money
I am new to collecting Pre War Trains and this guide helps with discovering new items and allows you to have a better idea of the value. Would like more information on the cars but I am sure other books have that.
Like Mr. Doyles other new Lionel train guide for post war trains, the Collector's Guide to Prewar Lionel Trains, 1900-1942 is prove to be an important resource for both the buyer and seller of antique Lionel train sets. Containing information on virtually every toy train made by Lionel between 1900 and 1942, the book will prove to be a gold mine of information. However I found two of the appendices at the end of the book to be of particular value. Appendix I, Awakening Sleeping Toys and Appendix II, Setting Up Your Train each contain information important to the collector. There is also a small chapter on Lionel Catalogs and Paper Products and another chapter devoted to Accessories, Toys and Novelties.All in all this is one you'll want to keep close.
This guide is loaded with excellent color photos and information covering Lionel trains from 1900 through 1942. It covers standard gauge through 00 gauge. It is intended for both novice and experienced collectors with detailed pricing guidelines based on product conditions.
This book is a excellent source of information for the novice collector as well as the more seasoned collector. This is a must have for anyone who has a love or interest in Lionel pre-war trains. Great reference for value, and rarity of these old treasures.
Excellent Guide for the Lionel Collector. Will be buying the Postwar version soon. Loved the additional information about how to care for trains, etc at the end.
