UPDATE: I took the CTS Exam yesterday and this book was not what was needed. I knew already 20 questions in that this was completely different. You are set up to fail so you can spend another $125 for a retake. Sure it has a ton of info but the exam itself has questions that you have NEVER seen. I asked about specific info and was told InfoComm doesn't write the test questions, done by a 3rd party. You dont see what you have wrong only a classification. I took the practice exam so many times testing myself that I knew every single answer by heart. This only represents about 30-40% of what you need. InfoComm doesn't stand behind the book to be enough for you to pass. It was a joke compared to the actual info.I lot more extensive than I thought. But that's good. The main thing for me to remember is terminology and there is plenty of that. Being in AV we are doing more with Networking and this goes thru it well for a novice.
Studied this book over the course of 2 weeks and passed my CTS with a 441. If you are planning to sit for your CTS I would recommend this book. Read the book through and take notes. After you have read the book all the way through, study your notes. Then, try to answer the review questions at the end of each chapter. Re-read sections relative to any of these that you missed (take notes here as well) until you comprehend the answer. In most cases it will not help just to memorize answers to the review questions or the practice test questions. You have to understand the concept behind the answer. Next, take the practice test that is on the CD that comes with the book. Follow the same instructions for this also (re-read and take notes as needed). Next, take the Infocomm online practice test and do the same with those questions. Last review all your notes and go take the test. It helped me to re-write my notes in another notebook and put them in my own words while I reviewed them. Good luck and hope this helps.
This resource is only okay. It's pretty obvious that this book isn't a professional text book. It's extremely wordy and it doesn't present information in the simplest or most logical way. Information that's related is often not presented side by side making it difficult to keep track of what the book is trying to teach. This book is useful to learn what it is you need to learn about. I spend a good amount of my time with this book looking up clarifications on concepts online where they're often explained much better. This simply cannot be your only resource if you have no/little industry experience. It's a good supplement to in-field experience, but overall this book is a chore to decipher sometimes. Often times the book will introduce a "vocab word" in a paragraph without ever actually telling you what it is. The author randomly italicizes words of interest...usually this denotes a vocab word and indicates that it can be found in the glossary in the back. Many of these italicized "vocab words" don't appear anywhere in the glossary and some even lack definition at all in the text. In general, confusing or unusual terminology are used instead of simply, colloquial explanations. I would cautiously recommend this to others simply because of the lack of other comprehensive resources available, but be prepared to do a lot of independent research to understand some of the concepts in this book.
The study guide is very informative and helpful to papered for the test.The CD allows me to continue my studies, without my head stuck in a book.I use the CD more then the book, but I keep the book in my car, so in the event that I am sitting in a waiting room, and have some time on my hands, I will have the book available to continue my studying.I will know more, once I have taken the test.
I have to say that thanks to this book I was able to get my CTS, this book works, but you shouldn't use only the material in this book to get your certificate. Try Infocomm's online courses, webinars, etc.
Read it cover to cover over 2 weeks. Just scored a 448 on the exam. This book along with the online practice test where my study materials. 20 years AV experience.
Im still studying , but me and my coworkers agree that the amout of information that this book has, is so helpful and relative for when were out on the field!
Awesome review guide but I just finished my exam and I would suggest looking over "audiovisual best practices" as well. It covered quite a bit of material that I saw on the exam pertaining more to the different phases and politics side of AV.
