A dear friend gave me a copy of Dr. Williams text asked that I might review it.Williams teaches us about what John Calvin called "the perfect righteousness of the law." (Calvin's Commentaries, Vol. 38, Romans, Chapter 3, [...]Moses brought the Ten Commandments that were personally delivered to him from the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob for the Hebrews. This was "The perfect righteousness of the law." Jesus Christ fulfilled this law--the Ten Commandments--as well as the writings of the Hebrew prophets in the Old Testament in a most practical, sensible and astounding way. (I would say that these were fulfilled in Christ as He died saying "It is finished" (John 19:30) and was buried and rose from the dead and ascended heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father, to ever live and make intercession for us. Still, the "living words" of Moses appertain to the faith of those who belong to God and Christ and the Hebrew prophetic writings have ongoing fulfillment.)J. Rodman Williams, following these, also brings in a practical, sensible, and astounding way the vital and perfect teaching of these laws. His teaching is uncorrupt and leaves the reader with no doubt or confusion. The applicability of the Book of the Law--The Ten Commandments, to the readers life and conduct, whether Jew or Christian may be simply understood and easily accepted. I believe with Dr. Williams that these truths apply to all people as well.These laws in separate chapters light upon the soul so graciously and sweetly that there is no question that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has come to visit, to instuct and to teach, and to convert the soul. This visitation and love brought a marked change in my thinking and behavior.
