I'll admit, I was hesitant about this coloring book as the listing on  really didn't offer up much information or photos regarding what would be in side the book. I recently got into coloring as stress relief and relaxation. Being a dog lover, I really wanted a dog sugar skull adult coloring book (and was hoping this one would have a pit bull design in it), and there really weren't many other options. I decided to take a chance on this...and boy am I sure glad I did!I absolutely love the designs inside and the variety. Each design is basically surrounded by black, so in terms of coloring, you'll literally just be coloring the sugar skulls themselves. The pages are a nice thickness, and each page has a black design on the back of it (so the pages aren't double sided), which allows for some bleed through of you're using gel pens or applying a lot of pressure to your colored pencils. The book contains 30 different designs. The breeds from what I can tell (obviously,there is some room for debate as the photos are not exact or named by breed), are as follows-Boston TerrierGreat DaneDalmationMexican HairlessSamoyedPug (2 designs)Lab or HoundCocker Spaniel (2 designs)DobermanCavalier King CharlesGerman Shepherd (or a fluffier version of one, such as a Belgian Malinois)Chihuahua (2 designs)French BulldogBrussels GriffonPomeranianPit Bull or Pit mix (2 designs)Then, there is a variety of other designs in which the dogs could range as mutts anywhere from a lab to a small chihuahua mix.I use both gel pens and colored pencils in this book. I actually really like to use both on the same design for a nice mix of shading, blending and vivid color pop (from the gel pens).
I love dogs, sugar skulls and adult coloring books. Obviously I love this book. I own the other version of this book on white paper already and am almost finished with it so this one arrived just in time. The midnight edition with the black page background really lets the colors pop. I am really enjoying this book, even more so than I did the one with a white background. You would think a book with the same basic designs may get boring but it doesn't. The designs are so detailed there are many color options and ways to color it in so it's nice redoing the same picture so to speak in different colors or using a different technique. The designs are well done and some provide so much detail you can spend several hours working on them. Others have a little less detail and you can start and finis in one sitting. Almost everyone should be able to find one of their favorite breeds of dogs in here or mixes. The book is well bound and I can vouch the other version has held up and lasted through every single page being colored on. Pages are bound tight and the outer cover protects the pages inside. The black background paper has a different feel to it than the white but this is common with every midnight edition book I have. The pages are thick and easy to color on. I cannot speak about bleed through since I use colored pencils, although if I did use markers I would put a blank piece of cardstock between pages no matter so bleedthrough isn't a problem. The book is a good size and fits nicely into a bag or backpack to take with you or fits great on a small lap table if you want to spend some time coloring on the couch watching TV like I do from time to time. I have found this to be a great way to relax and destress and having a combo of some of my favorite things in one book is perfect.
