I purchased this book to aid in cataloging an existing collection and found it to be of no use for this task. Some of the other books are much more helpful. I was impressed with his research information on the American potteries, but found the pictures to be limited and the shape numbers were difficult to read ( very tiny print)and pictures of signatures were unclear, and prices were limited to the pieces shown. If I had been interested in the history of pottery in America this book would have been excellent because many potteries were listed.

This book is mostly about art tiles - don't be fooled by the cover. It's pretty and well done all around, but if you're looking for expanded info on makers or collect anything other than tiles, this book isn's for you. My husband likes art tiles so I gave it to him.

I'm a collector of all sorts of things - and have long admired American art pottery, and even own a few pieces. But I don't know much about it. So, I was looking for a good book to introduce me to the major US art potteries, their histories, the sorts of things they made, their marks, and to provide some pricing information (so I can recognize a good deal when I'm out at antique stores or estate sales).Fortunately, I found Dick Sigafoose's book, which has been a fantastic resource. It contains a large number of pottery companies, and each section contains company history, what kinds of things they made, color photos, descriptions, prices, marks, and sometimes vintage catalog pages and advertisements. It's quite thorough, and has been just what I needed to learn about American art pottery, and has kindled my thirst to go find some of these things, and to learn more!

Great book on american art pottery. Lots of color photos and descriptions. Very detailed info on the companies that produced art pottery over the years. Very nice book, well composed. I highly recommend this book to any art pottery collector or dealer. Thank you.
