The Obsolete 30 Caliber Rifles

This book goes into some 30 caliber rifles that are considered obsolete. However upon reading this book you will realize that these oldies still have a lot to offer today's hunter. They are rich in history and frequently your ancestors may have owned them which enhances their desirability. There is some loading data and ballistics as well so for someone interested in old rifles this is a good read. They are approached from a different angle in this book.

Covers a few of the better known "obsolete" .30 caliber cartridges. Has a couple dates off by a year or two, and does not mention any of the "obsolete" foreign .30 cartridges such as the 7.62x54R Russian, and.303 Enfield, the various .30 caliber Mauser cartridges, or any of the other WW 1 and WW 2 .30 caliber cartridges that are now "obsolete".Still, over-all not a bad book, but could use an update with more cartridges and the correct dates. For instance, the .30-30 Winchester (not "obsolete but mentioned in the book in reference to another cartridge) was introduced with the Winchester model 1894 in 1894 - hence the rifle's name - not in 1893 as stated in the book.)

This must be on my Kindle. Haven't seen it yet but I don't expect it to be very revealing. Not nearly enough technical data in these offerings.

Title is misleading. Nothing like Mr Shell's other offerings. No pictures. This pamphlet is absolutely worthless to a surplus gun collector.

No depth

great history, info for ammo was the best part...
