Magnificent. There is a magic in cooking with whiskey (although many of the recipes are sans whiskey). There are also many interesting new ideas and every one we've tried has been outstanding. Interesting stories also. Fun to read.
Jack Daniels Cookbook. There are great grilling and marinade recipes. Tried a couple in our smoker last weekend and have people asking for the recipes already !
If you've never been to the South, but want to know what we eat, this is it. When I went to Mrs. Mary Bobo's, I realized the food was just like the food on our table the whole time I was growing up in Alabama. It reads like a very interesting book, with some fascinating history about the area and Jack Daniel's Distillery. Even if you never use any of the recipes, it's a good read. I compared several of the recipes to my Mother's and they were almost exactly alike. If you did grow up in the south, but didn't write down your mother's recipes, you might find them here. I can't say enough about how much I like this book.
Pimento Cheese is fab. Better than almost [or maybe all] store brands and super easy. Chess pie and variations also big family hit. Lots of the other recipes look similarly clean-tasting and easy to make.
My boyfriend went to Miss Mary Bobo's last year and fell in love with the food. I've been coveting this cookbook ever since I found it a few months ago, and he bought it for me. I was NOT disappointed. The recipes are amazing, very traditionally southern, and I love all the Jack Daniel's incorporation too.
Love the content in this delightful stroll through Lynchburg. But someone in the editing department really needs to work a lot harder on the Kindle edition. The layout is just horrid on my kindle. I am not sure who to address about that so here it is. My complaint over, I have to say, I'm anxious to try out several of the recipes. Most of which did not contain any Jack Daniels, but were more of a Southern homage to great food!
After visiting the Jack Daniel's Distillery a few years ago, it was nice to find this cookbook. The stories are fun and interesting to read and bring back good memories. The recipes are also very good. This book is an interesting and great addition to my cookbook collection.
I have made the everyday fried apples (awesome, would start conversations) and just made the fried chicken in real Lard. This doesn't taste like the chicken you get today fried in oil. I had it at Mary Bobo's but if you can't go there, try some of the recipes!
