The author has a nice personal touch in his writing and includes details from his lifetime of collecting. Because of that, the book is more than I expected -- it's not just lists of info, but a readable, enjoyable introduction to collecting.Also, I want to give credit to the publisher, Krause, because this is a handsome book, with high-quality printing and color illustrations on most of the pages.
I loved reading this book. It was very interesting and covered every aspect of collecting in a very quick read. It was a fun trip through baseball history and I gained a lot of information on collecting baseball cards, balls, jerseys, bobbleheads etc. It brought back many memories of collecting as a kid.
A good friend gave me a copy of this baseball memorabilia book. I have since purchased several as gifts for special baseball friends. I am not a big-time collector, much less a "Picker," but this book cuts across all levels of baseball fans and collectors. Although the book is small and "paper back," the high quality photographs and glossy presentation makes it a "coffee table" book. It is entertaining, educational and full of fascinating baseball memorabilia facts. It is much more than a pocket guide, it is a very good book. Needless to say, I give Baseball Memorabilia the highest rating.
The author admits to be obsessed with collecting, which probably sets him apart from the average fan, but this is a common sense, well thought out road map through the world of baseball memorabilia. Handsomely designed, there is enough baseball history in here to make it interesting to even non-collectors.
This book is as entertaining to read as it is informative. Amazing how many items are covered here, must read for any Baseball collector!
