I really hate to split hairs over a children's book, especially when the author is one of my favorites. But I'm disappointed in this one. We love our Karen Katz books, and thought this one would be as big a hit with my son as the others. Unfortunately, the book we received only has "sparkly" pictures on the cover and back page. The text notes a fuzzy black cat, sparkly bats, etc., but there's no fuzz and no sparkles. My son enjoys the book, but he never initiates reading it the way he does with the others in this series. "Where Is Baby's Birthday Cake?" etc. I didn't realize what a difference the shiny pictures and textures make until we got this. We had hoped to read this again and again with my son before Halloween, so we'd have lots to talk about through the month of October. This book didn't meet our needs, because it does not capture my son's interest. It's a sweet introduction to Halloween images and I think I can recommend it, but only if you buy in person so you know what you're getting.I'm very disappointed in this publisher. I still greatly love the work of Karen Katz, but I'll think twice before buying from this series again. If the publisher can't be relied upon to deliver a uniform product, then I'll need to see what I'm getting before I check out. That's a bummer, since is where we buy our books.
I bought this book along with other Karen Katz books and my grandson loves "Where Is Baby's Pumpkin" the best. He loves looking for the different pictures and feeling the fabrics on the characters. His favorite part is opening the closet and finding the 5 bats. Even though he is only 16 months, he counts along with me. I would highly recommend this book for any baby or toddler.
This is the first Karen Katz book my son has seen. It was given to him as a Halloween present by his grandparents. This is the first book that my son insisits in his little 9 month old way of squirming and squealing, that I read to him again and again. I've placed it on his bookshelf in his bedroom and the first thing he does when he wakes up for a nap is holds his hand out in that direction to tell me he wants the book. Same thing before each nap and before bedtime. He is addicted! Every page has a large flap that is easy for little hands to maneuver and there are lot of shiny, sparkly, glittery colors in this book which I think he also finds highly attractive.
This lift flap book is a great book for toddlers . The construction is sturdy and the colors are bright. I was disappointed in that many of the reviews I read mentioned textured pages in their books, where as the one I ordered had not only flat pages, very few page even had glitter on them. The construction of the pages should be more consistent. If you produce one edition with textured pages and shiny pages , all editions should contain them off you should delineate between them in your descriptions.
Karen Katz books are always welcome at our place. Our little ones love peeking under the flaps for the hidden items. This particular book has some shiny/glittery features on the witches hat and for example the pumpkin as as shown on the cover. It's a visual though not a feeling pop up glitter which we didn't mind.
I ordered two of these books for my great grandchildren who live in different states. I have received rave reviews from their parents and photos of the little ones enjoying the book. They like to lift the flaps on this one looking for the pumpkin. I really appreciate how easy it is to send the treat of a book for special occasions using .
I love all of Karen Katz's books! This one is especially cute and my two year old loves it. We need to read it to her at least once a night! They are perfect books for babies and toddlers. I do have to warn that kids love to rip the pages! ;)
I bought this for my 1-year-old grandson Mark who just adores these books by Karen Katz. They are very clever and the flaps are easy to maneuver for small hands. He loves finding what is underneath, especially if it's a cat! We have several of her books and he reads them over and over again. I wish she'd do one for Xmas.
