This is a beautiful book. The photography is top notch and the text is informative and interesting. Clearly this was a labor of love for the author and it shows in every page. The book is rather heavy as stated by another reviewer, I am assuming due to the heavy stock paper used. In my opinion this only adds to the quality of the book. A great coffee table book and a real conversation starter!

After meeting the author recently, I purchased a copy of this book. Based on a Philadelphia collector's obsession, this book is a wonderful documentation and description of the Victorian obsession of putting objects under glass. In an age with growing interest in the natural world, many of these displays feature plant and animal themes, either actual or duplicated in cloth, glass, shells or other material so cleverly by skilled artisans. The book includes items made of hair, commemorative pieces, and gives details on the different manufacturers and the actual process by which many of these decorative objects were made. In an age before TV and computers, (and before mass-production) the skilled talents of those spending hours of work to create these marvels is equaled by the hours of delight that owners and visitors spent looking at these wondrous objects. I am so glad the author has documented these fascinating items.

had to buy 2 more to give to jealous friends LOL

This book is absolutely incredible and such an in depth study of the Victorian obsession of all things under glass. I am just getting into this field and it educated me so much on the subject.
