I would "sing read" all of the "There Was an Old Lady..." stories in my general music classroom. It was a favorite amongst all of my grades...especially my lower elementary students. They always knew when a holiday or new season was approaching, I would pull one of these out. They would sing it with me!

If you like the other "There was an old lady...." Books, then you will like this one also.I actually buy then for myself. I purchased the doll sells and knit the items (within reason) that go along with the book. When nieces or nephews come over, they read & play.In this book the items swallowed are a rose, lace, glitter, candy, jewel, hearts, and a card.

My son (13-years-old with Autism) has always adored the "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed...." books. They were easy reads, good for practicing sequencing and comprehension skills, etc. When I saw "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Rose" in the store the other day I was THRILLED! Unfortunately, on the VERY FIRST page of the story, there is a GLARING editorial error, for ANYONE who is familiar with these stories....."There was an old lady who swallowed a rose. I don't why she swallowed a rose"...... there's a MISSING WORD (know). It's an essential part of the story and even my son noticed it!A little disappointed, but we love the story - it's just that error makes me a little sad. ANYONE who knows the story should be able to notice it.

Just like its predecessors, this one does not disappoint. My preschoolers love the books in this series and this will be no different. It will be a great addition to my Valentine's Day books.

Purchased this book for speech/language therapy in the public schools. It was shipped quickly and was in perfect shape. My students loved it! We also completed activities from Teachers Pay Teachers that went along with this book.

I chose a 4 star rating, because the art work is still engaging and clever. My PreK-K students love the "Old Lady Who Swallowed.." stories. If you are looking for books with a theme you can bring back each month/season, the Old Lady books are fun. This one is a Valentine's Day treat. We sing each story and discuss/re-enforce the fiction and non-fiction concepts each time. The prek and K ages are excited each time I bring out a new book. They ask, "What will she eat now?"

We're fans of Lucille Colandro's whimsical rhymes - we have the other "old lady" books - and had to have this one too!

We have "There was an old Lady who swallowed a Chick" and my son loves it. I saw the rose one and had to get it. He enjoys this one even more. Such a fun book and nice rhyming. He is 3 and already has it mesmerized. I will continue to buy more of these titles.
