I absolutely love this book. It's probably in my top 5 of the seventy-five or so board books that I have for my grandbaby. The reason I am giving it four stars is because of the text size in the book. The problem is that some of the text is dark on a dark background in addition to it being very small. I believe that the text is small enough to even look "off" in the book. It's like they were trying to emphasize the illustrations. In dim lighting, I can't see some of the text well enough to read it without bringing it two inches from my eyes. I would be willing to buy another one of these books if the text size was changed. That's how much I love it. The illustrations are great and they would stand out on their own even if the text was two or three times the size. I'm enclosing a picture that I took in our living room without a light. The morning sun is coming in through the window and this is how I often read books to my grandbaby. It's plenty light enough to read ALL of the other books she has. This picture emphasizes the lighter background against the lettering but it doesn't look like that much of a contrast to the naked eye. It's easier to see the background contrast in the photo. The picture is blurry so you can't read the text but you can still see how small the text is.
I love this book for the words and illustrations - but as a mom with almost 40-year-old eyes, I don't appreciate the black text on dark pages. There are a few pages in the book that I struggle to read because we're reading in a dimly lit room (it's bedtime) and there isn't much contrast between the black letters and the dark blue pages. Most of the pages are fine, but these few... well, a simple fix would have been to use white font, or at least a larger font. Writing is sweet though, messaging is good, and pictures are adorable. I guess I just need to memorize those pages that I can't see - or make it up as I go (the baby can't read yet anyway!)!
I agree with the other reviewers about this book. It's very well written and a really cute story that I love reading to my son, but the text size/ color is awful! I wanted to be able to read it to him before bed, but I can't because I can hardly see the words after I dim the lights for bed. The lighter pages aren't bad, but the dark wording on the dark pages is just impossible... and I'm only 32. haha! It's become an after lunch book to read instead. Please change the text format in this book because it really is adorable!!
I purchased this for a baby gift and it's super cute. The board book format is well made and seems like it will definitely hold up. The images are bright and very fun. I think that this will definitely be a baby favorite.
Super sweet book. Only wording I dislike is the "When you're wrong and when you're right" since we are not teaching our daughter wrong/right until she is older. Being told YOU are WRONG at this young age can have a negative impact. Being told that behaviour is wrong is a different story and a healthier approach. (so we've taped those pages together and the rest of the book is adorable and sweet. Lovely illustrations.
This is such a great book. I didn't realize that the board format was so small. I will definitely order the hardcover the next time. Makes a great baby shower and young children's birthday gift. Illustrations are beautiful and story is so loving. It's a must have. This was my third purchase and am planning to get another copy.
This book is my absolute favorite! It was given to us by a neighbor when we first had our daughter and every time we read it I want to thank them all over again! The message is so important and beautifully written! The colors are also very vivid. It's going to be my go to gift book for babies/toddlers!
This is our family's favorite book for bedtime. We started reading it each night to our foster daughter each night and saw a huge change in her comprehension of our love for her and her place in our family. She's since been adopted and it's become a must read each night for all our kids! Love the unconditional love message.
