Not so hot. I guess when you try to put it all in one book you glaze over much of the info. If that's want you want this book is ok. I wanted more specifics.
This books comes with a CD. The directions are clear, the projects are very helpful. I rank this book a 10.
I ordered this book for my Intro to Design Applications class at Ai, and for the most part, it serves its purpose. It seems to me that certain lessons are missing steps in one area or another, but it's unclear whether or not this was intentional. My instructor seems to think that it might be the authors' intent to get the students to apply what they've learned by implying the use of a given tool or command. I found it slightly frustrating, and to get the results depicted in the lessons, I found myself straying from the instructions and just fiddling with the project until it looked the way it was supposed to. All in all, not a bad book, but could definitely use a revision.
