Found this book through a recommendation on the "Ascending Mount Carmel" web blog. Wow, it's a stunning little book, with color images on almost every page. I've only skimmed the book so far, but, I've already learned a great deal.As a synoptical work, this book covers a lot of ground. It presents the saints from a modern, objective (as opposed to a strictly mystical/mythical) perspective. It dispels mythos in favor of a much more inspiring realism about why these saints were (and continue to be) important for the inspiration of our faith, and the growth of our love of God and neighbor. It presents saints as human, just like us, with the same weaknesses, failings and emotions, and emphasizes that what made them saints was simple devotion to the belief and trust in God's love.I could wish there were much more detail and more saints discussed, but, I think something like that would span many volumes. I was fortunate to find a copy of this book in "very good" condition for $3 (plus $4 shipping) and I purchased it mainly for its artwork. For that, I am very satisfied.I'm still saving up my pennies for the large multi-volume "Butler's Lives of the Saints" Butler's Lives of the Saints (4 Volume Set) to fulfill my wish to have a full treatment of my favorite saints :)
