This is my first coloring book by Amy Brown. I've seen other books by another publisher in the past but this is the first one that I have purchased. I hope that Ms. Brown brings out more of her fantasy designs under this publisher. I would love to color some of her dragons, etc. as well as these beautiful faeries.The faeries in this book are adults and they seem almost to be caught in the act of movement. Ms. Brown is able to draw static lines in such a way that you believe you will see them walk right off the page. The dresses flow beautifully and gracefully and the placement of arms and legs and tilt of head are all spot on.The book is printed on one side of the page with the typical CreateSpace thin white paper. The book is glue bound so you will need to cut designs out if you want to remove them from the book. All of the designs stop well before the binding and all elements are finished on the page (no half dangling open items where you have to guess where to stop coloring.) I was able to get the book to lay flat by breaking the spine.All of my markers bleed through and my gel pens and India ink artist pens either bleed through or leave a distinct shadow on the back of the page. My coloring pencils work well with the paper and as expected for the type of lead (soft or hard.) I will use a piece of chipboard or heavy paper behind the page I am working on so I don't ruin the following page with leaking ink. This book was one of 's "recommendations" and the low price caught my eye, I thought the images looked cute enough so I bought it - little did I know how engrossing these little faeries would be! I received the book on Monday, it's Wednesday afternoon and I've already colored 4 faeries. My husband is a truck driver & lately it seems like I spend a big portion of my day missing him.. the last few days I get my chores done, take care of the kids, and every free chance I get I'm right back into this book! Helps keep me in a upbeat frame of mind. (My daughter often colors with me, and loves fairies too. Big bonus!)So far I've used all Prismacolor Premier pencils on the faeries and Pan Pastels for the backgrounds. I appreciate the simplicity of the designs to let me practice and get to know the pastels, and I like that one faery doesn't take me 3 days to complete. I can't wait to turn the page ~
If you are a fan of Amy Brown and have always wanted to do something yourself with her art this is the coloring book to get. You will recognize many of her pieces of art and it is up to you to determine the best color for it....whether you choose the colors she originally chose or set up your own palate of colors the end product will be beautiful.
I love fairies, and I love that Amy Brown is a local artist, and I was able to meet her. It is fun to come up with new color schemes for many of the pictures I love of hers. So glad she's got a few books out. Fun and easy to color.
It was just as I expected. I must admit to being a little afraid to start coloring I think I want to get more colors first to be able to get the excellent shading I want to try for, but this is the second book I bought I got teacups and fairies and am looking forward to getting more colors and get coloring them, also having a hard time deciding do I want to do them in spring fall or winter colors or are they summer lol
I recently came across Amy Brown's Faeries coloring book and I love it! The pictures aren't complex but a joy to color. I am glad to have added this to my growing fairy collection.
Wonderful illustrations. Would give 5 stars if printed on a little heavier paper. Do like that pages are printed on one side only. Arrived promptly and packed nicely.
