The Gateway We Call Death

"Our purpose in life is to be tested, to develop faith, to make and keep sacred covenants, and, later, to leave," writes Elder Russell M. Nelson, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. "Our ultimate and highest destiny is to return to our heavenly home. When that time comes, it can be as momentous as the time of birth. Birth is the gateway to mortal life; death is the gateway to immortality and eternal life." In The Gateway We Call Death, Elder Nelson, a surgeon by profession and now a special witness of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, approaches the subject of death from both a medical and a theological point of view to discuss such topics as these: - The purpose of life and of death - The purpose of mourning - When death comes without warning - Factors of choice, such as suicide, euthanasia, and use of mechanical means to extend life - Life after death "As I have come to comprehend more about life in all of its phases," Elder Nelson writes, "I no longer feel that death is always that foe to be feared. Instead, I view it as a potential friend to be understood." The Gateway We Call Death provides reassurance and comfort for all who seek such understanding.

Tnhis is by far the best book I have ever read, which is quite a few, on understanding what happens to our spirit (soul, etc.,) after you die. It gives hope and peace to those who have lost loved ones. A MUST read!!I give this book to friends and loved ones who have lost someone they love instead of giving flowers.

I like the writing style of this book by Russell Nelson. I recommend it to anyone who has lost a loved one to death. It is inspiring to realize those loved ones are just beyond the veil. I gave it a five star rating because all of his books are that caliber.

It is a very stright forward talk about why we have to die. It explaines why we have to go through all of the pain. How to handle it. Would give it to all I know that are going through these feeling. I have already given many copies to friends.

This is a really great book for anyone who has lost a loved one, for whatever reason. It answers many questions plus it gives really good comfort to those morning the loss. I would recommend it to anyone.

I know this book has been around for awhile but I had never read it until a death in my family. There is much to ponder and it provided comfort when I was struggling with loss.

Elder Nelson offers great insight to the purpose of our existence. There is comfort in knowing that we have a loving Heavenly Father who cares about us and wants us to return to him someday.

Lookss at a thought provooking subject and treats it with dignity and respect as it really should be. Written by someone who dealt with it on essentially a daily basis in his Profession.
