If you are looking for a book that combines the history of teddy bears with lots of full color photos of individual bears that is also packed with a lot of interesting facts about each bear (and about bear making in general) then this is the book for you.I am not a serious teddy bear maker, but I enjoy looking at the myriad of photos of the antique bears and learning more about teddy bear history.
I have made antique reproduction teddy bears and bought and sold antique bears as a hobby since 1994. This is a great book if you are an arctophile (have a fondness for teddy bears).The color photography is excellent. Many very important bears (as far as high value $ and collector value are concerned, example- "Happy" 1926 Steiff, sold for $86,350) are featured on a full page with essential identification information.The book covers the history of the teddy bear, both American influence and German.The author includes sections on the materials used in early and modern bear making, bear apparel,memorabilia and even the care and repair of teddy bears.You will be taken on a century long teddy bear journey beginning in the 1890's through 1990's.Honestly it is the best teddy bear book I have ever read. If you deal or sell antiques this book will certainly be an asset when it comes to identification of antique bears. For those who like flea market, auctions and thrift stores, this book may help you identify a very valuable collector piece that you may have other wise not even noticed.
It is quite literally the ultimate teddy bear book. I got it for my daughter, and she loved it. On about every page it has a teddy bear, and description of its ears, mouth, posture, fabric and/or its trade mark. It is great for kids and adults who want to go into teddy bear history.
