I am a newbee when it comes to collecting marbles, so I had no idea where to even turn to start to learn about them, This book was perfect for me. It is written with beginners in mind, as so well organized. I have read through the book probably four or five times, and I will continue to read it over and over again. Every time I sit down with it and with along with a hand full of marbles I learn more and start to understand more. I'm a bit of a slow learner . . . and this writer made it easy for me. Now it's fun. The way that I hoped it would be.
I was a little disappointed in the size of this book when it came in. It is more of a large pocket guide, than a full sized book. It does have a lot of good information for new marble collectors inside. I do wish it had more unique pictures as the pictures seem to be repeated page after page. Overall this is a nice guide, but I think my mom will quickly outgrow it as she collects more.
By "guide" I can only assume Mr. Maxwell meant "Incredibly summarized version of information previously published in the last 30 years"... The entire "booklet" might make a single worthy entry to Wikipedia. Worked well as fire tinder on camping trip. Burned well.

Covers the basics for a beginning collector like me. Easy to read.
The book was informative. However, it was rather pricey for such a thin (pages) book. Plus it was a paperback. I had purchased other similar books which had a lot more info for the same price.
